00 年#1(A) (A)it had made painstaking efforts towards this goal. A history of long and effortless success can be a dreadful handicap ,but , if properly handled, it may become a driving force. 06 年#39(C) (C)misery should be enjoyed rather than denied. Today , surrounded by promises of easy happiness, we need art to tell us , as religion once did, Memento mori: remember that you will die, that everything ends, and that happiness comes not in denying this but in living with it. 07 年#24(C) (C)the role of talent tends to be overlooked. Their work makes a rather startling assertion : the trait we commonly call talent is highly overrated. 00 年#1(D) (D)the unparalleled size of its workforce had given an impetus to its economy 00 年#2(C) (C)machine-tool industry had collapsed after suicidal actions. 00 年#3 (C) (C)The revival of the economy depends on international cooperation. 02 年#48 (B) (B)interact with human beings verbally. 02 年#48(A) (A) fulfill delicate tasks like performing brain surgery. 原文第二段最后一句话为:".there are already robot systems that can perform some kinds of brain and bone surgery with submillimeter accuracy". (According to the text ,what is beyond man"s ability now is to design a robot that can__问题是想问一个超出机器人能力范围的内容。) 03 年#41(A)(C) (A ) receive support from fans like Donovan (C ) restored many common pastimes 这两个选项虽然也是原文第一段提到过的原话,但是并不是题目所提问的目的,在之前的篇章讲过, 所有的题目,话题都要和主题相关都是为主题服务的。 因此,正确 选项一定要选和主题相关的"(B)remolded the intelligence services" 03 年#56(B) (B) Americas enjoy a higher life quality than ever before. Such advances offer the aging population a quality of life that was unimaginable when I entered medicine 50 years ago." (C)Americans are over-confident of their medical technology. 06 年#24 (A)(C) (A) To prove their popularity around the world. (C) To give examples of successful immigrants. 00 年#1(B) (B ) its domestic market was eight times lager than before. 原文:When United States entered just such a glowing period after the end of the Second World War, it had a market eight times larger than any competitor, giving its industries unparalleled economies of scale. 01 年#55(A) (A) getting worse because of the Internet. 05 年#30(D) (D) both of them have turned form bad to worse. 06 年#32(D) (D)the number of large predators dropped faster in new fisheries than in the old. According to their latest paper published in Nature , the biomass of large predators. In a new fishery is reduced on average by 80% within 15 years of the start of exploitation. In some long-fished areas , it has halved again since then. 这两句话只是比较了下降数量多少,而不是如(D)中所表述的"快慢" 06 年#36(A) (A)poetry is not as expressive of joy as painting or music. 因此,最常见的方式就是在中心词前面的修饰词做文章,请广 大学员一定注意此类选项,具体设置方式通常为:"名词前的动词;动词,形容词前的副词程度与原 文不一致" 01 年#56 (C) (C )can soon wipe out world poverty (原文当中没有此修饰词) 02 年#56(C) (C)the Supreme Court strongly opposes physician-assisted suicide (原文当中没有此修饰词) 03 年#53(B) (B)there will soon be only one railroad company nationwide (原文当中没有此修饰词) 08 年#37(A) (A)DNA technology has been widely applied to history research. 01 年#65(B) (B) WorldCom serves as a good example of both benefits and costs. Examples of be benefits or costs of the current concentration wave are scanty. The mergers of telecom companies,such as WorldCom, hardly seem to bring higher prices for consumers or a reduction in the pace of technical progress. 05 年#25(D) (D)Cooperation among monkeys remains stable only in the wild. In the wild, they are a cooperative, group-living species. such cooperation is likely to be stable only when each animal feels it is not being cheated. 01 年#55(D) (D)consider positive today. What was less visible then, however, were the new , positive forces that work against the digital divide. 05 年#33(B) (B)develop into happy dreams. Most people seem to have more bad dreams early in the night, progressing toward happier ones before awakening, suggesting that they are working through negative feelings generated during the day. 若选(B)会演变成 negative feelings generated during the day tend to develop into happy dreams. 07 年#39 (D) (D)appreciate the economic value of trust. 原文第四段 surely it should be obvious to the dimmest executive that trust, that most valuable of economic asset, is easily destroyed and hugely expensive to restore-and that few things are more likely to destroy trust than a company letting sensitive personal data get into the wrong hands. (According to Paragraph 4 what puzzles the author is that some bosses fail to)内容,而只是原文中 that 的定语成分。 具体范例如下: 00 年#2(B) (B)semiconductor industry had been taken over by foreign enterprises. For a while it looked as though(看上去好像) the making of semiconductors , which America had invented and which sat at the heart of the new computer age , was going to(将要成为) be he next casualty. 03 年#44(A) (A) Straitford"s prediction about Ukraine has proved true. 原文第四段原话为: As soon as (一。。。就。。。表示还未发生)that report runs, we"ll suddenly get 500 new internet sign-ups from Ukraine".

Our car was full of flowers inside! On the way home we had to stop at traffic lights, and there my wife saw the bookshelf.   It stood outside a furniture(家具)shop. “Buy it,” she said at once. “Weu2019ll carry it home on the roof-rack(车顶架). Iu2019ve always wanted one like that.”   What could I do? Ten minutes later I was twenty dollars poorer, and the bookshelf was tied on to the roof rack. It was tall and narrow, quite heavy too.   As it was getting darker, I drove slowly. Other drivers seemed more polite than usual that evening. The police even stopped traffic to let us through. Carrying furniture was a good idea.   After a time my wife said, “Thereu2019s a long line of cars behind. Why donu2019t they overtake(超车)?”   Just at that time a police car did overtake. The two officers(警官)inside looked at us seriously when they went past. But then, with a kind smile they asked us to follow their car through the busy traffic. The police car stopped at our village church(教堂). One of the officers came to me.   “Right, sir,” he said. “Do you need any more help now?”   I didnu2019t quite understand. “Thanks, officer,” I said. “Youu2019ve been very kind. I live just down the road.”   He was looking at our things: first at the flowers, then at the bookshelf. “Well, well,” he said and laughed. “Itu2019s a bookshelf youu2019ve got there! We thought it was--er, something else.”   My wife began to laugh. Suddenly I understood why the police drove here. I smiled at the officer. “Yes, itu2019s a bookshelf, but thanks again.” I drove home as fast as I could.   1、From the story we know that _________. A.He could drive slowly and it was safe.   B.Other drivers would let him go first.   C.His wife could use a new bookshelf.   D.He could save a lot of money and time.   3、Why were the police and other drivers so kind to the writer?   A.Because they thought the writer liked studying very much and needed a bookshelf.   B.Because they didnu2019t think it was polite to overtake a car with a bookshelf on it.   C.Because they thought somebody in the writeru2019s family had died and he needed help.   D.Because they thought it was dangerous to carry a bookshelf on a car.   4、Why did the writeru2019s wife begin to laugh?   A.Because now she knew what mistake the police had made.   B.Because at last her husband understood why the police had driven to the church.   C.Because the officer was always looking at the flowers and the bookshelf. Now it is the Western rule to begin at the head of the horse, that is why I was surprised. It struck me that it could not really make any difference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly(肚子) or the foot of the horse, if he really knows his business. And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people"s rule.They make their own rules. Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar(奇特的) to himself; and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy to work in that way.   Now the very same thing is true to literature(文学). And the question, "How shall I begin?" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else. That is, you are not yet experienced(有经验的) enough to trust to your own powers. When you become more experienced you will never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail --that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning.   1. A friend of the writer"s drew the horses ____.   A. very well   B. in the way of western rule   C. in the way of his own rule   D. all of the above   2. The writer was surprised because ____.   A. the artist began to draw at the head of the horse   B. the artist began to draw at the tail of the horse   C. the artist made his own rule   D. the artist did not follow other people"s rule   3. You are not yet experienced because ____.   A. you don"t know where to begin   B. you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail   C. you always asked question   D. you do not trust to your own powers   4. When you become more experienced you will ____.   A. never ask question   B. often begin at the tail   C. should write the end of the story   D. should think of the beginning   5. The topic of the passage is ______.   A. How to draw a horse   B. How to write a story   C. How to make your own rules   D. Trust to your own powers   参考答案: CDDCD   英语阅读理解【3】   Now satellites are helping to forecast(预报)the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world. The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere(大气), because this is where the weather forms(形成). They send these pictures to the weather stations. So meteorologists(气象学家)can see the weather of any part of the world. From the pictures, the scientists can often say how the weather will change.   Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive new pictures, the meteorologists compare(比较)them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.   So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the scientists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for three or five days. Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead(提前).   1. Satellites travel _____________.   A. in space B. in the atmosphere   C. above the ground D. above space   2. Why do we use the weather satellites to take pictures of the atmosphere? Because __________.   A. the weather satellites can do it easily   B. clouds form there   C. the weather forms there   D. the pictures can forecast the weather   3. Meteorologists forecast the weather __________.   A. when they have received satellite pictures   B. after they have compared new satellite pictures with earlier ones   C. before they received satellite pictures   D. during they study satellite pictures   4. Maybe we"ll soon be able to forecast the weather for ________.   A. one day B. two days   C. five days D. seven days or even longer   5. Englishman   For any Englishman,there can never be any discussion as to who is the worldu201fs greatest dramatist(剧作家).Only one name can possibly suggest itself to him:that of William Shakespeare Every Englishman has some knowledge,however slight,of the work of our greatest writer.All of US use words,phrases and quotations from Shakespeareu201fs writings that have become part of the common property of the English-speaking people.Most of the time we are probably unaware of the source of the words we used,rather like the old lady who was taken to see a performance of Hamlet and complained that it was full of well—known proverbs and quotations.   Shakespeare,more perhaps than any other writer,makes full use of the great resources of the English language.Most of US use about five thousand words in our normal use of English;Shakespeare in his works used about twenty-five thousand.   There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare used it.Such a study is well worth the effort(it is not,of course,recommended to beginners)even though some aspects of English usage,and the meaning of many words,have changed since Shakespeareu201fs day.   36. Unfortunately,in many parts of the world,man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important.In his eagerness to draw quick profit from the trees,he has cut them down in large numbers Two thousand years ago,a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build warships,with which to gain itself an empire It gained the empire but,without its trees,its soil became bare and poor.When the empire fell to pieces,the country found itself faced by floods and starvation.   Even where a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees,it is difficult sometimes to make the people realize this.They cut down the trees but are too careless to plant and look after new trees So,unless the government has a good system of control,or can educate the people,the forests slowly disappear   This does not only mean that there will be fewer trees.The results are even more serious:for where   there are trees,their roots break the soil up,allowing the rain to sink in, and also bind the soil.This prevents the soil from being washed away.But where there are no trees,the rainfalls on hard ground and flows away on the surface,and this causes floods and the rain carries away the rich topsoil in which crops grow When a11 the topsoil is gone.nothing remains but worthless desert.   41.Trees are useful to man mainly in three ways,the most important of which is that they can ____   A. keep him from the hot sunshine   B.enable him to build warships   C.make him draw quick profit from them   D .protect him from droughts and floods   42.Itu2019s a great pity that ____   A.man is only interested in building empires   B.man is eager to profit from trees   C.man hasnu201ft realized the importance of trees to him   D. man hasnu201ft found out that he has lost all trees   43.Sooner or later the forests will disappear ______. An attempt to study this was made by two researchers using a series of silent films.They had two actors play the parts of an executive(经理)and a visitor,and switch roles each time.The scene had one man at his desk playing the part of an executive,while the other,playing the part of a visitor,knocks at the door,opens it and approaches the desk to discuss some business matter.   The audience watching the films was asked to rate the executive and the visitor in terms of status.A certain set of rules about status began to emerge from the ratings.The visitor showed the least amount of status when he stopped just inside the door to talk across the room to the seated man.He was considered to have more status when he walked halfway up to the desk,and he had the most status when he walked directly up to the desk and stood right in front Of the seated executive.   Another thing that affected the status of the visitor in the eyes of the observers was the time between knocking and entering.For the seated executive,his status was also affected by the time between hearing the knock and answering.The quicker the visitor entered the room,the more status he had.The longer the executive took to answer,the more status he had.   41.The experiment designed by the two researchers aimed at finding out _____   A.how business is conducted by all executive and a visitor   B how to tell the differences between an executive and a visitor   C.how to tell businessmen at a glance   D.how businessmen indicate status   42 Which of the statements can best sum up the passage?   A.The executive has a higher status than the visitor.   B.Military people wear uniforms but the businessmen do not   C,A study revealing a set of rules about the status of businessmen.   D It is a good method to use a series of silent film in research.   43 Having entered the room,the closer the visitor approaches the executive, ___   A.the less it affected his status   B.the lower his status   C.the more it affected his status   D.the higher his status   44.The longer the seated man was in answering the knock,_____   A.the higher his status   B.the less it affected his status   C.the lower his status   D the more it affected his status   45.Which statement is NOT true?   A Soldiers wear uniforms with various symbols so that one call tell their status at a glance.   B.In the experiment.one actor played the executive while the other played the seated man   C.Business people wear similar suits.   D The audience watching the film rated the executive and the visitor in terms of status.   答案:DCDAB   profession   Acting is such an over-crowded profession that the only advice that should be given to a young person thinking of going on the stage is“Donu201ft!”.But it is useless to try to discourage someone who feels that he must act,although the chances of his becoming famous are slim. The normal way to begin is to go to a drama sch001.Usually only students who show promise and talent are accepted,and the course lasts two years.Then the young actor or actress takes up work with a theatrical company(剧团),usually as an assistant stage manager This means doing everything that there is to do in the theatre and occasionally acting in very small parts It is very hard work indeed,the hours are long and the salary is tiny.   Of course,some people have remarkable chances which lead to fame and Success without this long and hard training.Connie Pratt,for example,was just an ordinary girl working in a bicycle factory.A film producer happened to catch sight of her one morning waiting at a bus stop,as he drove past in his car.He stopped and got out to speak to the girl.He asked if she would like to go to the film studio to do a test,and she thought he was joking Then she got angry and said she would call the police It took the producer twenty minutes to convince Connie that he was serious The test was successful.And within a few weeks she was playing the leading part opposite one of the most famous actors of the day But chances like this happen once in a blue moon   36 From the very beginning,the author puts it clearly that acting is a profession __A____   A sought after by too many   B.too difficult for young people   C.for slim people only   D.one can go into without special training   37.For someone who feels he must act,it is very likely that _D____   A.he will become a film star at long last   B he will become a stage manager   C he will be well paid   D.he will end up without any Success   38.The film producer found Connie Pratt one morning when she was __D__   A.at work in a bicycle factory   B.driving past him in her car   C.going to a film studio   D.waiting for a bus   39.A few weeks after the test.Connie Pratt found herself __B____   A the most famous actress of the world   B.playing the leading female role in a play   C.as famous as the greatest actor of the world   D.no less famous than the leading actor of the day   40 The concluding sentence “chances like this happen once in a blue moon” means D   A this is something which happens once in a while   B.this is a highly profitable chance   C.this is something highly possible   D this is a very rare chance   答案:ADDBD ;

Laptop computers are popular all over the world. People use them on trains and airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms. Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “speak” with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it at home, in a fast-food restaurant or under the trees—anywhere at all! Because of the many changes in computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, the portable computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities, too. At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “ Here we are in the middle of Virginia and weu2019re giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and do everything.” 1. The main purpose of the laptop program is to give each student a laptop to _______. A. use for their schoolwork B. access the Internet C. work at home D. connect them to libraries 2. Why is the word “speak” in the second paragraph in quotation marks(引号)? A. They donu2019t really talk. B. They use the computer language. C. Laptops have speakers. D. None of the above reasons is correct. 3. Which of the following is true about Westlake College? A. All teachers use computers. B. 1500 students have laptops. C. It is an old college in America. D. Students there can do everything. 4. A window on the world in the last paragraph means that students can _______. A. attend lectures on information technology B. travel around the world C. get information from around the world D. have free laptops 5. What can we infer from the passage? A. The program is successful. B. The program is not workable. C. The program is too expensive. D. We donu2019t know the result yet. 1. On the farm of today, machines provide almost all the power. One of the most important benefits will be the farm computer. A few forward-looking farmers are already using computers to help them run their farms more efficiently. The computers help them keep more accurate records so they can make better decisions on what crops to plant, how much livestock to buy, when to sell their products, and how much profit they can expect. Many computer companies have been developing special computer programs just for farmers. Programs are being written for hog producers, grain farmers, potato farmers, and dairy farmers. In the future, farmers will be able to purchase computer programs made to their needs. Because of the growing importance of computers on the farm, students at agricultural colleges are required to take computer classes in addition to their normal agricultural courses. There can be no doubt that farmers will rely on computers even more in the future. While the old-time farm depended on horse power, and modern farms depend on machine power, farms of the future will depend on computer power. Another technological advance which is still in the experimental stage is the robot, a real “mechanized hired hand” that will be able to move and, in some ways, think like a human being. Agricultural engineers believe that computer-aided robots will make startling changes in farming before the end of the century. Unlike farmers of the present, farmers of the future will find that many day-to-day tasks will be done for them. Scientists are now developing robots that will be able to shear sheep, drive tractors, and harvest fruit. Even complex jobs will be done by robots. For example, in order to milk their cows, farmers must first drive them into the barn, then connect them to the milking machines, watch the machines, and disconnect them when they are finished. In the future, this will all be done by robots. In addition, when the milking is completed, the robots will automatically check to make sure that the milk is pure. The complete mobilization of the farm is far in the future, but engineers expect that some robots will be used before long. 1. Which sentence carried the main idea of the whole passage? A. The first sentence of the first paragraph. B. The first sentence of the second paragraph. C. The first sentence of the third paragraph. D. The last sentence of the second paragraph. 2. according to the passage, computers can not help farmers decide _______. A. how much money they can earn from their products B. whether to plant a certain kind of crop

It is true that a few studies have been made. Where all the inhabitants of a particular area enjoy exceptionally good or bad health, scientists have identified .contributory factors such as the presence or absence of substances like iodine, fluoride, calcium, or iron in the water supply, or perhaps types of land thatprovide breeding places for pests like mosquitoes or rats. Moreover, we can all generalize about types of people we have met. Those living in countries .with long dark winters are apt to be less talkative and less vivacious than inhabitants of countries where the climateis more equable(稳定的). And where the olive and the orange grow, there the inhabitants are cheerful, talkative, and spontaneous. But these commonplace generalizations are inadequate: the influence: of climate and geography should be studied in depth. Do all mountain dwellers live to a ripe old age? Does the drinking of wine, rather than beer, result in a sunny and open temperament? Is the strength and height of one of the Kenyan tribes due to their habitual drinking of the blood of cows? We are not yet sure of the answers to such .questions, but let us hope that something of benefit to mankind may eventually result from such studies. Choose correct answers to the question: 1.The author"s purpose of writing this passage is to______.

常见的设问方式有: ●标题类:what"sthebesttitle/headlinefor thepassage? ●大意类:thetextismainlyabout__.the topic/subjectdiscussedinthepassageis_.fromthepassage,wecanconcludethat_. inwritingthepassage? 如:(2006北京卷d篇71题) whichisthebesttitleforthepassage? a.societalconditionsinpremoderntimes b.practicesofreducingmaternalattach-ment c.poorhealthserviceandhighinfantdeathrate d.differencesbetweenmodernandpremodernparents 第一段:perhapstopreventthesadnessthat infantdeathcaused,anumberofsocietalpracticesdevelopedwhichworkedagainstearlyattachmentofmotherandchild. 注意连接词的使用:neartheendofthelastyearinmiddleschool,mydad tookmetothewildliferefuge.heneeded togetsomealigatorbloodtodotheexper-iment.atfirst,ithoughtfishingforalligatorswasabadidea.whatifonetriedtoeatme?butwehadalotofhelp,and mydadknewalotaboutalligators,soitwasok. first,but,so等展开的。所设题目是: whydidthewriterthinkthatfishingforaligatorswasabadideaatfirst? a.becausethewriterwasafraidofthe fiercealligatorsb.becauseweshouldprotectalligators c.becausethewriterwasnotasbraveashisfatherd.becausethewriterknewlittleaboutalligators 某些句型表面看上去是比较级,而实际上是最高级含义。mymotherdeci-dedtotakemeonthetrip.itcouldn"tbebetter.(itcouldn"tbebetter=it"sgreat. 其他的选项如sheishappy/she issad等都片面。 第一句话就开门见山:myfatherandiwereveryclose.hewasalwaysproudofmysuccess. 我们再来继续欣赏一下父亲鲜明的个性:myfatherwasacuriousmanwhowasalwaystryingnewthings.hewasthefirstpersoninmytowntobuyamo-torcycle.unfortunately,myfatherandhis motorcycledidn"tgetalongtoowell.he felloffitsooftenthathegotridofitjustamonthafterbuyingit.asaresult,heneveragaintrustedanyvehiclewithlessthanfourwheels. 常以infer, imply,indicate,suggest,conclude,learn,in- tend,mean,describe,purpose等词提问。 或含有表推测的情态动词,如can,could,might,would等和其他表示可能性的动词,如probably,mostlikely等。 a.thepostalservicehasovertheyearsbecome faster.b.thepostalservicehasovertheyearsbecomeslower. 例heisanoldcobbler(修鞋匠)withashopinthemarais,ahistoricareainparis.whenitookhimmyshoes,heat firsttoldme:“ihavenotime.takethem totheotherfellowonthemainstreet;he"ll fixthemrightaway.” buti"dhadmyeyeonhisshopforalongtime.justlookingathisbench loadedwithtollsandpiecesofleather,iknewhewasaskilledcraftsman(手艺人).“no,”ireplied,“theotherfellowcan"tdo itwel.” “theotherfellow”wasoneofthose shopkeeperswhofixshoesandmakekeys“while-u-wait”-withoutknowingmuchaboutmendingshoesormakingkeys.theyworkcarelessly,andwhentheyhavefin-ishedsewingbackasandalstrap(鞋带)you mightaswelljustthrowawaythepair. mymansawiwouldn"tgivein,andhesmiled.hewipedhishandsonhisblueapron(围裙),lookedatmyshoes,hadmewritemynameononeshoewithapieceofchalkandsaid,“comebackinaweek.”iwasabouttoleavewhenhetookapairofsoftleatherbootsoffashelf. “seewhaticando?”hesaidwithapride.“onlythreeofusinpariscando thiskindofwork.” whenigotbackoutintothestreet, theworldseemedbrand-newtome.hewassomethingoutofanancientlegend(传说),thisoldcraftsmanwithhiswayofspeak- ingfamiliarly,hisverystrange,dustyfelthat,hisfunnyaccentfromwho-knows-whereand,aboveal,hisprideinhiscraft. thesearetimeswhennothingisim-portantbutthebottomline,whenyoucandothingsanyoldwayaslongasit“pays”,when,inshort,peoplelookonworkasapathtoever-increasingconsumption(消费)ratherthanawaytorealizetheirownabili-ties.insuchaperioditisararecomforttofindacobblerwhogetshisgreatestsatisfac-tionfrom prideinajobweldone. 1.whichofthefollowingistrueabouttheoldcobbler?

英语四级阅读理解匹配题技巧介绍    转折对比处   转折句或转折关系常常是文章内容的强调之处,是作者表达观点或陈述事物的关键地方。一般而言,转折后的内容是语义的重点,它往往是作者的真实意图所在,所以命题者常对转折处的内容进行提问。考生应特别注意此处内容。转折一般通过however, but, yet, in fact等词或短语来引出。   强对比也是作者用来强调论证自己观点的一种方法,常由unlike, until, not so much…as等词或短语引出。命题者常就被对比者的属性设题。   例(四级真题)   …likewise, a married man who smokes more than a pack a day is likely to live as long as a divorced man who doesn"t smoke. There"s a flip side, however, as partners are more likely to become ill or die in the couple of years following their spouse"s death, and caring for a spouse with mental disorder can leave you with some of the same severe problems.   Q: It can be inferred from the context that the “flip side” refers to ______.   A) the consequence of a broken marriage   B) the emotional problems arising from marriage   C) the responsibility of taking care of one"s family   D) the disadvantages of being married   文章第二段首先介绍了婚姻的好处,可以帮助弥补身体不健康所产生的不利影响。第四句中使用了表示转折意义的连词however,因此推断下文将会谈论婚姻产生的不利影响。所以此处的flip side是指“婚姻导致的弊端”,故答案为D)。    举例处   作者在文章中经常引用具体的例子来使文章更有说服力,而这些例子很可能会成为考点,需加以注意。文章中常用as, such as, for example, for instance, take…as an example等引出的短语或句子作为例证。   例 (四级真题)   But privacy does matter—at least sometimes. It"s like health; when you have it, you don"t notice it. Only when it"s gone do you wish you"d done more to protect it.   Q: According to the passage, privacy is like health in that ______.   A) people will make every effort to keep it   B) its importance is rarely understood   C) it is something that can easily be lost   D) people don"t cherish it until they lose it   作者把隐私同健康进行比较,当人们拥有健康时,不曾注意到它,一旦失去才知其珍贵。D)中的cherish it与原文中的wish you"d done more to protect it意思一致。    数字年代处   数字年代在文章中常常会传达重要的信息,因此也经常成为考查的重点,需要说明的是四级考试与其他考试不同,一般很少就数字本身的运算、辨认或推理设题,而往往就数字引出的信息命题。因此,考生在看到数字时还要注意其前后所印证或引出的具体信息。   例(四级真题)   We need economic growth unless we condemn the world"s poor to their present poverty and freeze everyone else"s living standards. With modest growth, energy use and greenhouse emissions more than double by 2050.   Q: Greenhouse emissions will more than double by 2050 because of ______.   A) economic growth   B) wasteful use of energy   C) the widening gap between the rich and poor   D) the rapid advances of science and technology   文中提到截至2050年,随着经济增长,能源利用及温室气体排放会加倍增长,A)中的“经济增长”与原文中的modest growth所指一致,符合题意。    因果关系处   两个事件内在的因果关系常常成为出题人的命题点,一般来讲,这种选择题有两种形式,给出原因推断结果,或给出结果推断原因。   例(四级真题)   In the past few years, prominent schools around the world have joined the trend. In 2003, when Cambridge University appointed Alison Richard, another former Yale provost, as its vice-chancellor, the university publicly stressed that in her previous job she had overseen “a major strengthening of Yale"s financial position.”   Q: Cambridge University appointed Alison Richard as its vice-chancellor chiefly because ______.   A) she was known to be good at raising money   B) she could help strengthen its ties with Yale   C) she knew how to attract students overseas   D) she had boosted Yale"s academic status   剑桥大学公开强调Alison Richard在以前的工作中负责监督财务,“是耶鲁大学财政状况提升的主要力量”,基于这个才能,剑桥大学聘请她担任常务副校长一职。A)she was known to be good at raising money表达的与此句相同,故为答案。    主题句处   文章第一段的段首、段尾或最后一段的段尾处往往是整篇文章的主题所在;每一段的段首或段尾句通常是该段的主题句,因此命题者常常围绕此处出题。   在四级考试中,文章或段落的主旨常以主题句的形式出现。主题句的特点是:语义完整、形式简洁、观点明确。在演绎类的文章中,语篇主题句一般位于篇章的开头部分;在归纳类文章中,主题句多出现在段末或篇末;不过主题句有时也出现在文章中间部分。找到了主题句,就等于找到了此类题的答案。   例 (四级真题)   “The biggest problem is that couples assume each other knows what"s going on with their finances, but they don"t. There seems to be more of a taboo (禁忌) about talking about money than talking about death. But you both need to know what you"re doing, who"s paying what into the joint account and how much you keep separately. In a healthy relationship, you don"t have to agree about money, but you have to talk about it.”   Q: The author suggests at the end of the passage that couples should ______.   A) discuss money matters to maintain a healthy relationship   B) put their money together instead of keeping it separately   C) make efforts to reach agreement on their family budgets   D) avoid arguing about money matters to remain romantic   文章最后一句提到,要想维持一段健康的婚姻关系,双方的金钱观不一定要一致,但一定要彼此沟通。A) “夫妻双方应该讨论钱的问题以维持健康的婚姻关系”是对原文的同义转述,故为答案。    定义结论处   很多文章中会出现考生不熟悉的概念,作者往往会对这些概念给出相应的.定义,这些定义很容易成为考查的内容。很多文章都涉及一些调查或实验,而这些调查、实验的结果、结论又常常成为考点,因此考生一定要注意find, show, reveal, conclude等动词引出的宾语从句以及thus等表示结论的词语。   例(四级真题)   Most hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water are stable, but traces of both elements are also present as heavier isotopes. The heaviest rain falls first. As a result, storms that form over the Pacific deliver heavier water to California than to Utah.   Q: What is said about the rainfall in America"s West?   A) There is much more rainfall in California than in Utah.   B) The water it delivers becomes lighter when it moves inland.   C) Its chemical composition is less stable than in other areas.   D) It gathers more light isotopes as it moves eastward.   在太平洋上形成的风暴给加利福尼亚州带来的雨水要比带给犹他州的更多。 B) The water it delivers becomes lighter when it moves inland (雨水由沿海进入内陆地区时会变小),加州属沿海地区,犹他是内陆地区,因此,该选项是对原文的概括,故为答案。    列举并列处   列举并列处是指用First(ly)… Second(ly)… Third(ly)… Finally…; Not only…but also…; In addition; Furthermore; Moreover; Above all; On the one hand…, on the other hand…等表示顺承关系或递进关系的词语列举出的事实。列举并列处是设置事实细节题的主要出处,若为正面出题,则与原文内容相同的选项为正确答案;若题干为反面设题,则与原文意思相反的选项为此题的正确答案。   例(四级真题)   Being sociable looks like a good way to add years to your life. Relationships with family, friends, neighbours, even pets, will all do the trick, but the biggest longevity (长寿) boost seems to come from marriage or an equivalent relationship. The effect was first noted in 1858 by William Farr, who wrote that widows and widowers (鳏夫) were at a much higher risk of dying than their married peers. Studies since then suggest that marriage could add as much as seven years to a man"s life and two to a woman"s. The effect holds for all causes of death, whether illness, accident or self-harm.   Q: William Farr"s study and other studies show that ______.   A) social life provides an effective cure for illness   B) marriage contributes a great deal to longevity   C) women benefit more than men from marriage   D) being sociable helps improve one"s quality of life   本文论述社交生活对人寿命的影响,开头列举了可能导致长寿的因素:善于与他人交际以及与家人、朋友、邻居甚至宠物保持良好关系。但马上转折后提到能够导致长寿的最主要的因素似乎在于婚姻或者是类似的关系。然后,提到这一结果最早由威廉·法尔于1858年记录。B) 中的contributes…to是对第二句中的boost的同义转述,故为答案。    比较级/最高级处   在文章中经常会对不同的对象进行某方面的比较,而这些比较经常成为考查的目标,尤其是在文章中的最高级出现之处。   例(四级真题)   “Retailers who"re responsive and friendly are more likely to smooth over issues than those who aren"t so friendly,” said Professor Stephen Hoch. “Maybe something as simple as a greet at the store entrance would help.”   Q: What contributes most to smoothing over issues with customers?   A) Manners of the salespeople.   B) Hiring of efficient employees.   C) Huge supply of goods for sale.   D) Design of the store layout.   对顾客态度友善、反应迅速的商家更容易解决好问题,从这里可以看出态度友善和反应迅速都属于销售人员的举止问题。A) “销售人员的举止”最符合题意,故为答案。    指代处   写作、讲话时为了简洁、明晰地表达事物及其逻辑关系,常用各种代词通过指代进行信息传递,当同时出现好几个事物时,这种指代关系往往不容易区分,故常成为命题点。   例(四级真题)   At Penn, students are not asked to indicate race when applying for housing. “One of the great things about freshman housing is that, with some exceptions, the process throws you together randomly,” said Undergraduate Assembly chairman Alec Webley. “This is the definition of integration.”   Q: What does Alec Webley consider to be the “definition of integration”?   A) Students of different races are required to share a room.   B) Interracial lodging is arranged by the school for freshmen.   C) Lodging is assigned to students of different races without exception.   D) The school randomly assigns roommates without regard to race.   原文倒数第四段最后一句提到,“This is the definition of integration.”而This指代的具体内容出现在前一句中,即with some exceptions, the process throws you together randomly(除特殊情况外,宿舍的安排一般是随机的)。因此,所谓“融合的定义”实际上是指“随机安排学生住宿”,故答案为D)。    特殊标点处   特殊标点符号处,尤其是段首的特殊符号所引出的内容往往表达了作者的观点,阐述了全文的主题,因此也成为主旨大意题的高发命题点。   此处所说的特殊标点符号包括:   (1) 破折号(表解释);   (2) 括号 (表解释);   (3) 冒号 (表解释);   (4) 引号 (表引用或有其他特殊含义);   (5) 分号 (表进一步的解释说明) 等。   在主题段落或主题句中,特殊标点符号所引出的内容往往是出题点,因此在解答这类题时,一定要特别注意对特殊标点所引出内容的把握。   例(四级真题)   Many African-American blogs have written about what they"d like to see Michelle bring to the White House—mainly showing the world that a black woman can support her man and raise a strong black family.   Q: What do many African-Americans write about in their blogs?   A) Whether Michelle can live up to the high expectations of her fans.   B) How Michelle should behave as a public figure.   C) How proud they are to have a black woman in the White House.   D) What Michelle should do as wife and mother in the White House.   第五段第二句使用了破折号,表达了美国黑人希望看到米歇尔可以向这个世界展示一个黑人妇女既可以支持她的丈夫,也可以支撑起一个强大的家庭的形象。D) “作为妻子和母亲,米歇尔在白宫应该做什么”与原文意思相符,故D) 正确。 ;

Moderation is always the safest way to do things and a virtue(品质)we should have. Let"s take the student life for example. There are some students who study too hard and play too little, while there are others who play too much and study too little. On one hand, it is harmful to his health if he has too few exercises, and on the other hand, it is harmful to his mind if he plays too much. In the matter of eating, one also should be moderate. The appearance of El Nino is known to affect the weather around the world. Scientists still do not completely understand it. Yet they now find they can use it to tell about the future in different areas of the world. One example is the work of two scientists at Columbia University in New York, Mark Cane and Gordon Eshel. A scientist of Zimbabwe, Roger Buckland worked with them. They have found that when El Nino appears, Zimbabwe has little or no rain. This means corn crops in Zimbabwe are poor. The last El Nino was in 1991 to 1993.That was when southeastern Africa suffered a serious lack of rain. The scientists wrote about their recent work in the publication Nature.

Don"t make any unreasonable demands on the government. If you agree,say“Yes”, if you dissent,say “No”. A journalist is a person who works on a newspaper or magazine and writes articles for it. He is so stingy that he never gives anything to others, even his friends or relatives. If you press another key, your meal is prepared and heated for you; then it is brought on along a very *** all railway line to your seat in front of your television so that you don"t even have to stand up when you get what you need. When o cars traveling at 30 mph hit each other(1),an unbelted driver(2),would meet the windshield (3),with a force equal to diving headfirst into the ground from a height of 10 meters(4).

Passage 1 Green peace has identified global climate change as one of the greatest threats to the planet. Governments and scientists alike have agreed that the problem is real and serious. Last year at the climate summit in Kyoto, industrialized countries agreed, at least on paper, to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases they pump into the atmosphere. But crucial details, upon which the success or failure of the agreement rests, are still under negotiation, and in the meantime little real action is being taken to address the problem. Greenpeace is therefore campaigning for governments to face up to their responsibilities and urgently address this problem. The longer action is delayed, the more drastic it will need to be in order to avoid dangerous interference with the planet"s climate from the so-called greenhouse gases. Governments should be leading the way to a fundamentally new energy direction based on clean renewable energy, like wind or solar power. But at present many governments instead use taxpayers" money to support the agenda of the companies, which continue to spend billions of dollars on development of coal, oil or gas—the climate-damaging fossil fuels. Scientists estimate that we can only afford to release a limited amount of carbon into the atmosphere, otherwise, we pass the “safe” limits of climate change. It is at this point that climate change happens so last that ecosystems are unable to adapt. Greenpeace believes that a temperature increase of 1℃ is the absolute maximum that should be at-lowed. The amount of carbon that we can release to keep within these limits can be calculated and is in the range of 112.5 to 337.5 billion tons of carbon over the next 100 years. But industry already has around four times this amount of carbon—over one thousand billion tons—in existing reserves of oil, coal and gas. This means that three quarters of the oil, coal and gas already found cannot be burned if we want to avoid dangerous climate change. If we continue burning fossil fuels at present levels, the “safe” limit of 1℃will be reached in just 40 years. That is why we have to start reducing carbon dioxide emissions immediately and prepare for an orderly phase out of fossil fuels. Greenpeace calls this the “carbon logic”. The oil companies alone have already found enough oil to cause dangerous climate Change. Yet they continue to look for more. And of course once they have invested in finding the oil, they will not be prepared to give up their right to pump it out and sell it. The effects on the climate could be catastrophic. 1. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Both governments and scientists have realized that global climate change is one of the greatest threats to the planet. B. At the climate summit in Kyoto, many countries planned to protect the atmosphere. C. The atmosphere protection is still in the air. D. Industrialized countries have reduced the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouses they pump into the atmosphere. 2. According to the author, governments should_______. A. support the companies to continue their development of coal, oil or gas B. advocate the use of clean renewable energy like wind of solar power C.not waste taxpayers" money to develop new energy D.prohibit the further exploration of the fossil fuels, only allowing the companies to burn the existing reserves already found 3. A suitable title for the passage is________. A. Green peace"s International Campaign to Save the Climate B. The Carbon Logic C. Climate Change D. Fossil Fuels 4. The author has a(n)________attitude towards our climate. A. worried B. critical C. negative D. objective 5. What does the word “catastrophic” in Line 4 of the last paragraph mean?
