　　英国地处欧洲西岸，地理位置优越，每年都吸引着大量来自世界各地的留学生。那么在英国硕士专业MSc、MA、MRes有何不同呢?的我在这里为大家整理了英国硕士留学MSc、MA、MRes对比，希望对大家有所帮助。 　　 一、MSc (Master of Science) 　　一年，理学硕士，这种学位是典型的Taught Master，也是中国学生出去读硕士最通常读的一种学位。这种学位，在英国教育体系中有四个作用： 　　如果你本科毕业就工作了，多年之后你发现自己需要进修，则可以选择这种学位。这种学位的特点就是“闪电式”地回顾本科3年(英国本科3年)中该领域的核心知识，并且介绍目前该领域的最新idea，topic或者简单介绍相关知识的应用。 　　浓缩性、对口性、实用性被贯穿在这个学位中，几乎没有研究的成分。学生们就是不停地上课、上课，然后最后从一个projectlists里面选择一个project，写一篇论文毕业。从这个意义上讲，MSc从一开始是面向工作，而非面向研究的。毕业后的大多数人都直接走向了工作岗位。 　　另外还能看出，这种学位和我国大学本科第四年有很多相似之处，最终毕业论文的课题选择带有很大的被动型。这也就是为什么一些MSc要求申请者有工作经验，因为只有有工作经验，才会有想法，在最后的课题选择中才会更加主动。 　　在英国，如果一个本科生毕业之后选择攻读MSc，基本可以认为，这个学生的本科成绩不怎么优异。事实上，英国本科毕业生的竞争力，要超过没有工作经验的MSc的毕业生。所以，在国内工作过的人，如果想出国“再充电”，之后再回到工作岗位，MSc是最佳选择。 　　 二、MPhil (Master of Philosophy) 　　两年，哲学硕士，是攻读PhD(哲学博士)期间，因为研究进度不达标、考核不合格或其他原因中途肄业而被颁发的学位。表明该学生接受了PhD的训练，但是没有达到PhD的水平。 　　MPhil也可以作为独立的学位申请。在这种情况下，顺利读完MPhil的学生可以直接跳入PhD的最后一年，如果研究出色则直接授予PhD学位。但是，MPhil和PhD的申请条件是一样的，都需要申请者有一定的、专业的研究背景。最令人生畏的就是Research Proposal的写作。一般的本科生，几乎直接不能申请到PhD或者MPhil。 　　爱丁堡大学University of Edinburgh和圣安德鲁斯大学University of ST Andrews的中国学生表示：除非是北京大学、清华大学、中国科学技术大学的学生，想申请到这种学位几乎是不可能的。 　　之所以不可能，原因有两个： 　　1.缺乏研究生水平的专业知识; 　　2.缺乏研究能力(包含各种能力)。 　　这里还要补充说明一点：剑桥大学的MPhil也就是普通意义上的MSc或者MA，一年。至于剑桥大学为什么这么独树一帜与众不同，就是因为她太牛了。 　　 三、MRes (Master of Research) 　　一年，研究硕士。前面说了，攻读PhD对一般人而言有两大困难，知识困难和研究能力匮乏。MSc，只能弥补知识上的不足，却缺乏研究成分。这也就是为什么攻读MSc的学生，继续攻读PhD时申请困难的原因之一。 　　首先说明，MRes课程并非任何一个专业都开设的，一般只有工科和理科开设;此外，MRes班通常都是小班，招生规模小于MSc班的招生规模，因为学校方面通常非常希望MRes的毕业生能够继续攻读PhD。 　　MRes班的学生与学院lecture和professor接触的机会更多，而且这些致力于研究的学生表现出更多自主性，这些学生的dissertation的选题都会主动靠近自己意向中的PhD导师。 　　MRes，集教学与研究为一体，既教学生相关知识，也教学生研究方法。不同专业的MRes情况也是有所不同的。 　　第一学期你会在教室接受知识学习，迅速达到一个研究生水平; 　　第二学期开始，课堂上会有很多miniprojects让大家group讨论，并且各种关于研究方法、沟通能力、讲演能力的课程会走进课堂，你会从一个学生向预备研究人员转变。 　　第三学期，你可能还会接受一个placement，将你派到某一个研究所、公司、实验室、野外观测点进行调查研究，那里，你和一些同事会一起为哪的boss工作，也就是研究一个问题。这里，MRes的学生所做的工作，完全是一个研究人员的工作。最后的毕业论文，其实就是你工作期间的研究报告，既要让你的boss满意，也要让你在学校的tutor满意。而对于理科学生，MRes则表现为较MSc更多的课业量，并且课程的专业性、深度和针对性更强。 　　MRes对于出国留学的人员是很大的挑战，一年时间同时完成知识的飞跃和研究能力的提升，直接为PhD做好充分准备。所以，对于计划攻读PhD的学生，MRes是首选。成功拿下MRes所获得的竞争力，是要比MSc高的。
