址，为汉代雕刻玉器的地方。清《新修南阳县志》载："故县北居民，多治玉为生。"旧中国，南阳玉雕已形成一大行业，城内有作坊80多家，多是后设作坊，前面开店，自雕自销。玉雕品主要有人物、花卉、鸟兽、山水、神像、炉熏、首饰等120多个品种。早在6000年以前，古人已开采独山玉，安阳殷墟妇好墓出土的玉器中，有不少独山玉的制品。西汉时曾称独山为“玉山”。独山玉由于色泽鲜艳、透明度好等优点，跻身中国“四大名玉”之列。高档独玉的翠绿色的品种，与缅甸翡翠相似，故有“南阳翡翠”之誉。一般独玉主要用于雕琢各种陈设件以及手镯、戒指、项链等饰物。独山玉是一种多色玉石，按颜色可分为八个品种。① 3.蛋白石矿：在辽西地区首次发现蛋白石矿，在高山上，火山岩石中的夹缝中，多年结晶而成。外有红色钟乳状带红土的皮子，白色透明，硬度7.5，折光率：1.54,密度：2.65,光性：隐晶质集合体，透明度：半透明，玻璃光泽，块度一般，细腻，润度好很像玻璃种翡翠。跟古代和氏璧中描述的特点接近，有待考证。
