孔雀在佛教中也有特殊意义,密教本尊之一孔雀明王的坐骑即为一只甚具诗意的孔雀。一般明王多现忿怒像,令普通人有难以亲近之感,而此明王则形象优雅、慈蔼可亲。以下是我整理的孔雀明王的传说故事，供大家参考借鉴，希望可以帮助到有需要的"朋友。 孔雀明王，亦称孔雀大明王，汉译有摩诃摩瑜利罗阇、佛母大孔雀明王等。 此尊相传为毗卢遮那佛或释迦牟尼佛的等流身。密号为佛母金刚、护世金刚。在密教修法中，以孔雀明王为本尊而修者，称为孔雀明王经法，又称孔雀经法。为密教四大法之一。一般明王多现忿怒像，令普通人有难以亲近之感。而此一明王则形象优雅、慈蔼可亲，而且以甚具诗意的孔雀为坐骑。 据《孔雀明王经》所载，佛住世时，有一位比丘遭毒蛇所螫，不胜其苦。当阿难向释尊祟告之后，释尊乃说出一种可供祛除鬼魅、毒害、恶疾的陀罗尼，此即孔雀明王咒。此外，在久远以前，雪山有一金色大孔雀王，平素持诵该咒甚勤，因此恒得安稳。有一次，由于贪爱逸乐，与众多孔雀女到远地山中嬉游，而未诵该咒，因此为猎人捕捉。他在被缚之时，恢复正念，持诵该咒，终于解脱系缚，得到自由。释尊的这些开示，就是孔雀明王及其陀罗尼为世人所知的开始。 孔雀明王的形像，一般都是白色，穿白缯轻衣。有头冠、璎珞、耳珰、臂钏等装饰，乘坐金色孔雀。现慈悲相，有四臂，分别持有吉祥果及孔雀尾等物。其形像，《大孔雀明王画像坛场仪轨》云： ‘于莲华胎上画佛母大孔雀明王菩萨。头向东方，白色，着白缯轻衣。头冠、璎珞、耳珰、臂钏，种种庄严，乘金色孔雀王，结跏趺坐白莲华上或青绿花上，住慈悲相。有四臂，右边第一手执开敷莲华，第二手持俱缘果，左边第一手当心掌持吉祥果，第二手执三、五茎孔雀尾。" 四种持物中，莲华表敬爱，俱缘果表调伏，吉祥果表增益，孔雀尾表息灾。白莲座表摄取慈悲的本誓，青莲座表降伏之意。据密教相传，此明王是毗卢遮那如来的等流身，具摄取、折伏二德，故有上述二种莲座。此莲座谓之为‘孔雀座"。 按照中土佛经的说法，孔雀出生后，生性凶残，好食人肉，且能从四五十里外吸人食肉，他居住的大雪山，方圆五百里没有人烟。一天佛祖游历来到大雪山，被孔雀张口鲸吞，将佛祖的丈六金身吸入腹中。佛祖无奈，只得破其背而出，用他自己的说法就是“本欲从其便门而出，却恐有污佛体，故破其背而出，踏至灵山。” 后来佛祖将孔雀“踏至灵山”后，心中起了杀意，想想咽不下这口气，于是对手下说，吾欲为众生降灭之。一千众佛一听，那还了得，先不说这孔雀的父母凤凰出世时，连佛祖的菩提树都还不知在何处，光是那孔雀的兄弟大鹏金翅鸟，也不是一个善相与的主（大鹏金翅鸟以善吃龙而着称）。于是一千菩萨，佛陀，罗汉，尊者，齐声劝告说：“尊从其体出，伤之如伤尊母。”，我们的释迦牟尼尊者权衡了利弊，找了个台阶下，照他后来宣扬的说法是“故宽之，且封为‘孔雀大明王菩萨"，受无上自在加持，以空乏其性。” 将快活了这么久的孔雀以一个“佛母孔雀大明王菩萨”的名号，困在了灵山上。后来果不其然，大鹏金翅鸟闹将起来，杀上西方极乐，打得满天神佛找不到北，最后佛祖无奈，定下了计策，和大鹏约战数日之后，点上佛界众生，和大鹏斗了几天几夜，方才擒下，带回灵山后，封为大鹏明王，依样困住。不过大鹏乃孔雀兄弟，故佛祖人前还会尊称他为舅舅。
