1.孔雀明王一头四臂，为菩萨形，驾孔雀，故曰孔雀明王（明王非忿怒尊），具名佛母大金曜孔雀明王密教本尊之一。2.依大孔雀明王画像坛场仪轨所载，孔雀明王呈一面四臂之相，手持莲花、俱缘果、吉祥果、孔雀尾，跨乘金色孔雀王。所持四物中，莲花表敬爱，俱缘果表调伏，吉祥果表增益，孔雀尾表息灾。此明王为毗卢遮那如来之等流身，具有摄取、折伏二德，故有二种座，白莲座表示摄取慈悲之本誓，青莲座表示降伏之意。3.又现图胎藏界曼荼罗中，孔雀明王位于苏悉地院南端第六位，肉色二臂，右手持孔雀尾，左手持莲花，坐赤莲花座。密号佛母金刚，三昧耶形为孔雀羽。 孔雀明王（梵名Maha-mayura-vidy-rajni）汉译有摩诃摩瑜利罗阎、佛母大孔雀明王等名。此尊相传为毗卢遮那佛或释迦牟尼佛的等流化身。密号为佛母金刚、护世金刚。在密教修法中，以孔雀明王为本尊而修者，称为孔雀明王经法，又称孔雀经法。为密教四大法之一。孔雀明王——摧伏毒害烦恼，能灭一切恶毒，能除一切毒类。大正藏密教部——《佛母大孔雀明王经》：『佛告阿难，我有摩呵摩瑜利佛母明王大陀罗尼，有大威力，能灭一切诸毒怖畏灾恼，摄受覆育一切有情，获得安乐。』（摩瑜利：孔雀）『佛母大孔雀明王力，能除一切诸毒令毒入地，令我及诸眷属皆得安隐。人毒、人非人毒、药毒、咒毒，如是等一切诸毒，愿皆除灭。令我及诸眷属，悉除诸毒，获得安隐，寿命百年，愿见百秋。』「孔雀明王」乃「佛母大孔雀明王」之简称，为大日如来（毗如遮那佛）所示现。他有别于一般明王威吓忿怒之相，而是显得慈悲、庄严、寂静、凝定！若能多持诵此《孔雀明王咒》，可转乖戾成祥和、转斗争成礼让、转病痛成健康、转娑婆成净土！孔雀明王的来历孔雀明王根本咒孔雀明王菩萨，梵语音译作“摩诃摩瑜利罗阇”，又称“佛母大孔雀明王”，简称“孔雀明王”。佛母形像庄严，现慈悲相。依“孔雀明王画像坛场仪轨”所记载：“于内院中心，画八叶莲华，于莲华胎上，画佛母大孔雀明王菩萨，头向东方白色着白缯轻衣，头冠璎珞，耳珰臂钏，种种庄严，乘金色孔雀王，结跏坐白莲华上，或青莲华上，住慈悲相，有四臂，右边第一手执开敷莲华，第二手持俱缘果子(其果状似木瓜)；左边第一手当心掌持吉祥果，第二手执三枝五茎孔雀尾。”孔雀食一切毒虫以维生，佛母以孔雀为座骑，象征断尽一切烦恼恶毒；四种持物中，开敷莲华象征敬爱，俱缘果子表示调伏，吉祥果代表增益，孔雀尾有息灾之意；白莲座表示慈悲摄取之本誓，青莲座则象征降伏。又有二臂之孔雀王，秘藏记末曰：“孔雀王母菩萨，左手持开莲，右手持孔雀羽。”关于佛陀初说孔雀明王神咒之缘起，“佛母大孔雀明王经”中如是记载：“时有一苾刍名曰莎底，出家未久新受近圆，学毗奈耶教为众破薪营澡浴事。有大黑蛇从朽木孔出，螫彼苾刍右足拇指，毒气遍身闷绝于地，口中吐沫两目翻上。尔时，具寿阿难陀见彼苾刍，为毒所中极受苦痛，疾往佛所礼双足已。而白佛言：‘世尊！莎底苾刍为毒所中，受大苦恼。具如上说。如来大悲云何救护？"作是语已，尔时佛告阿难陀：‘我有摩诃摩瑜利佛母明王大陀罗尼，有大威力，能灭一切诸毒怖畏灾恼，摄受覆育一切有情，获得安乐。汝持我此佛母明王陀罗尼，为莎底苾刍而作救护，为结地界结方隅界，令得安隐，所有苦恼皆得消除。"”修习孔雀明王神咒除去一切毒害，平息一切灾难怖畏，诸病消除，避免非时而死，得以日夜吉祥，益寿延年。
