Paul Smith于一九七零年于英国Nottingham(诺定咸)与当时还是时装系学生的女朋友(现任太太)Pauline Denyer开设了第一间店铺，并于当时开始学习裁剪。一九七六年Paul于巴黎发表了其首个以Paul Smith命名的系列后，便正式展开其七彩时装之旅。Paul Smith的设计主要以朴实、简单为理念，客人从不会看到Paul Smith推出一些奢华的时装或哗众取宠的新奇作品。Paul Smith曾表示，其服装是为人而设计，而不是时装天桥。起初，Paul Smith只设计男装，随后更推出了女装服饰，其风格与男装甚为相似，都是以简单朴实为主，适合上班一族的女士。另外，七彩条子也是Paul Smith的标志，由二十多种不同颜色组成的条子往往也会出现于Paul的设计上，为Paul Smith的平实设计添上了色彩。现时Paul Smith的产品均是于Nottingham或伦敦设计，于英国或意大利用上意大利，法国及英国的布料制作，充满欧洲风格。而Paul Smith由于扩展快速，现时有不少周边产品也委托了其他公司生产及设计，如地毯，眼镜及香水等。二零零二年，Paul Smith更联同Cappellini公司推出家具系列“Mondo Collection”及于翌年与Maharam家具合作设计布料，可说是产品广泛。Paul Smith 虽然当不上职业电单车车手，但是他与电单车生产商于二零零五年合作了“Triumph by Paul Smith”的电单车产品系列，当中包括限量版电单车，牛仔裤及电单车车手外套等，可算圆了Paul Smith多年梦想。另外，同年Paul Smith与另一运动用品生产商Burton也合作生产滑雪板及相关服饰“Burton Mark XIII collection”。除此之外，更与矿泉水生产商Evian生产Paul Smith专用水樽包装等，可说是八面玲珑。其实，Paul Smith于多个国家早已成为家喻户晓的品牌，品牌现已销售至多于三十五个国家。于日本，Paul Smith更拥有接近二百间分店，而Sir Paul Smith亦亲自管理品牌于日本的发展，包括店铺选址，足见日本市场对Paul Smith的重要性。虽然充满英伦色彩的Paul Smith一直未能成功融入美国社会，但看Paul Smith 零五年九月于洛杉矶开设了自十八年前于纽约开设后的第二间美国专门店，可见其进军美国市场的决心。以男装起家的英国设计师Paul Smith，成功打破传统英伦绅士的沉闷造型，为装束披上色彩强烈的印花图案；另外他对商业及市场具备敏锐触觉，经常找来不同单位及品牌合作推出Crossover系列，当中包括家居用品、调味品、汽车及矿泉水，甚至近日连电单车也染指，成功令产品遍及不同阶层，稳占英伦设计界一哥地位。 在英国时装坛地位举足轻重的Paul Smith，其设计风格不像大部分英伦设计师来得天马行空；相反，Paul Smith倒是一位踏实得来，却满有创意的设计师，其忠于传统绅士服的精细剪裁，配合独特的色彩及印花运用便非常成功，如带点英式庭园味道的玫瑰印花，还有如彩虹幻变的二十四色条子，不但被融入服饰及配件设计上，彩色条子还用作印制精美的纸袋，成为品牌一大标记。 多元化产品 广 告最初只在伦敦小镇Nottingham开设小店，到现在全英国已拥有十四间专门店，旗下的系列更多达十二个，除男、女及童装外，还有牛仔裤、香水、手表、眼镜及家品系列，产品种类非常多元化。Paul Smith多年来对时装界的贡献，令他于二○○○年成为首位被英女王册封为爵士的时装设计师。但说到Paul Smith最令人佩服的，是他敢于尝试的精神，与不同单位及品牌合作推出服装及配饰以外的产品，从而开创新的商机。 2005 Paul Smith X Triumph Paul Smith夥拍英国电单车制造商Triumph推出限量版电单车，成为近期轰动全城之作。PS为Triumph设计了九部Bonneville T100手绘电单车，图案自然不少得经典的二十四色条子，散发英伦色彩的英国旗，还有赛车旗的黑白格等，每架都是独一无二，只会于英国、法国、意大利、美国及日本PS店展出及发售。此外还有两款全球限量推出各五十部的电单车，香港便获配额一部，价值HK8,000，香港Fans总算有福。除电单车外，亦推出Triumph by Paul Smith服装及配饰系列，Triumph Logo及电单车图案不时出现在设计上，令全城掀起一片电单车狂热。 2005 Paul Smith X Evian 今年Paul Smith跟Evian合作推出限量版矿泉水，PS在Evian的雪山招纸上，将其热爱的单车运动融入，背面招纸是一排单车队在连绵的山路上前进，比正面招纸更加精彩；可惜此矿泉水不会在市面发行，只会在PS公开活动中使用，及于法国和英国的PS专门店内陈列。 2005 Paul Smith X Eboy 今年春夏季，Paul Smith邀请了擅长玩Pixel Art的德国平面设计组合Eboy合作，推出一系列印上伦敦市面貌的配件。Eboy将伦敦的著名地标以Pixel手法描绘出来，如伦敦塔、Piccadilly Circus、千禧巨蛋，还有地道色彩的黑色古老的士、红色双层巴士及邮筒等，产品包括布鞋、帆布袋、银包及记事簿等。 1998 Paul Smith X MINI Paul Smith本身亦是MINI Cooper的忠实拥趸，九八年PS推出了被誉为Art Car的MINI Paul Smith，车身喷上二十四色条子图案，驶上街感觉劲威风，可惜只限于英国及日本有售。 Paul Smith发展历程 1970 于伦敦小镇 Nottingham开设店铺。 1976 于巴黎展出首个Paul Smith男装系列。 1979 伦敦首间专门店进驻Covent Garden。 1984 于日本公司C.Itoh签订特许经营合约，开拓日本市场。 1987 首间位于纽约的专门店进驻第五街。 1990 香港专门店开幕。 1991 取获British Designer for Industry Award奖项，同时于日本开设六十间店铺，并推出童装系列。 1993 副线R. Newbold专门店于伦敦开幕，及推出Paul Smith Women女装系列。 1995 推出眼镜、手表及旅行袋系列，获颁授C.B.E.勋章作为对时装界的贡献。 1998 Paul Smith Women女装系列于伦敦时装展首度亮相，及推出MINI Paul Smith。 2000 被英女王册封为爵士。 2003 于British Style Awards取获年度男装设计奖，及女装设计奖项。
