　　2002年6月16日凌晨2时43分，北京海淀区学院路20号院内一家名为“蓝极速”的网吧发生火灾。公安消防部门接到报警后，立即赶赴现场扑救。作为火灾事故调查专家，北京市公安局消防局火查处处长李建林第一时间进入现场进行调查，他的任务就是找出起火原因，正确判定火灾性质。　　李建林：一片废墟,特别是这些个死尸，有的烧得剩下二分之一、三分之一都有，惨不忍睹。那么建筑结构烧毁以后，这个木质结构碳化相当严重，有的地方都局部地坍塌，像玻璃都炸裂，窗框的烧融。　　解说——由于该网吧属于非法营业，为了逃避相关部门的检查，事发当晚，网吧里唯一的出口被锁住，就连窗户也被铁栏杆封住，这导致了当时上网的人无路可逃，最终酿成24人死亡，12人重伤，而且死伤的几乎全是附近大学的在校学生。　　李建林：这是在建国以后(北京)死伤最多的，而且震惊全国的。如果查不清，当时我就想怎么向这些个家属交代，怎么能够使这些个家属得到安慰。　　解说——于是，李建林立即对火灾现场进行勘察。而他要做的第一件事情就是寻找起火点。　　李建林：大部分都堆积在了大厅的一个角落里，而且都背向起火一侧，那么人们的本能着起火来以后都是往远离起火点的地方逃生，而且把后背留给了起火点。　　解说——在仔细观察尸体形态特征之后，李建林沿着尸体的后背方向做了一个连线。　　李建林，50岁，从事消防工作30年来，他先后指挥和侦破上万起火灾案件。成功调查了上海市二轻局贸易中心大楼、天津邮政仓库、湖南衡阳“11·3”火灾坍塌事故等特大火灾事故原因，侦破率一直保持在90%以上。根据多年的工作经验，李建林首先提出火灾痕迹中“不可逆理论”。不可逆理论是指根据燃烧痕迹中不可逆向的物证进行分析，判断火灾性质的方法。这套理论成为认定火灾事故的法宝。而正是这个法宝，李建林仅仅用了10分钟就迅速找到了起火点。　　李建林：水有源，火有根，最终找到它的根源。把尸体的后背留给了楼梯口那个地方，应该涌向楼梯口，结果没有涌向楼梯口，这说明什么？说明起火点就在楼梯口。　　解说——那么为什么会在楼梯口起火呢？是物质设施自燃？还是人为原因导致火灾？又或者是有人蓄意纵火？由于事发当晚雷电交加，会不会是被雷击或者电线短路了呢？　　李建林：它只是一个二层的小楼，很低，两侧是高大的建筑物，它也不可能先击这个最低层。经过现场勘察，没有发现一处有短路的痕迹，电的因素就彻底排除了，那要是如果说吸烟遗留火种了，那么这里边人不应该死这么多，有大量的时间疏散，他能够跑出去。　　解说——正当调查陷入僵局的时候，询问伤员的同事带回了一些特殊的线索。有人闻到了汽油味，有人看到烟起来了。汽油、起烟，这些都是纵火的特征，难道真的是有人蓄意纵火吗？就在这个时候，角落里一段木制的楼梯扶手引起了李建林的注意。　　李建林：大部分都烧黑了，碳化了，惟独就剩下这么一小块漆皮还完好如初。这说明什么，火焰极其异常地跳跃？什么使这个火焰极其异常地跳跃呢？那只有助燃剂。　　解说——根据李建林的经验，有助燃剂就意味着这起火灾极有可能是一起蓄意纵火案。可是，在这里上网的大部分都是附近的大学生，又会是谁和这些年轻的学生们结仇，非要烧死他们呢？为了准确判断火灾性质，李建林他们立即提取现场物证，并送往有关部门进行化验。　　李建林：如果检测出来没有助燃剂，那么我们的压力就更大了。那么在这个时间我们为了慎重起见，又做了很多其它方面的工作，调查询问，现场勘察当中的其它因素也都相继地进行查找，从而来印证我们最初的设想。　　解说——就在李建林忐忑不安的时候，技术部门送来了火灾现场提取物的分析结论。　　李建林：里边确实有助燃剂汽油。当这个结论给出以后，我们这个心情平静了，不会是那样的忐忑不安了。　　解说——经过综合分析，李建林认为这起火灾原因是人为纵火。可是，又是谁把汽油带到网吧里的？他出于什么目的呢？与此同时，公安机关立即对该网吧周边加油站、停车场、修理厂等与汽油有关的部门展开调查。　李建林：在一个加油站里边，通过加油工反映说有两个小孩拿着雪碧瓶子到这买了汽油，也是不多的，然后提供了一些个线索。解说——2002年6月18日下午3点，也就是在距离火灾发生72小时之后，两名涉嫌纵火的男孩被公安机关抓获。根据两人交代，两周前，他们在蓝极速网吧曾与服务员发生纠纷，于是起意报复，购买汽油纵火，24条年轻的生命因为几个少年轻率的报复而被火焰所吞噬.历经72个小时，在李建林和同事们的努力之下，这起震惊全国，建国以来北京发生的最大火灾案终于告破。
