氮的原子序数为 7,原子量为 14.0067。在自然界氮有14 N、15 N 两个同位素,大气氮中两同位素的相对丰度分别为 99.634‰、0.366%。对空气中氮同位素测定表明,到50km高处,其同位素组成保持稳定。溶解于海水中的氮,在几千米深的范围内同位素组成与大气的氮同位素组成相同。地球上氮同位素的变化范围为-15.6‰～+31‰。在地表条件下,氮可以气态、液态或固态存在,其价态由+5 变化到-3,存在形式为 、 、N2、 、NH3、NO2、NO、N2O和氨基酸等。价态的变化有利于同位素分馏。地壳与地幔中氮同位素比值的现有数据如图7-37 所示。由于氮的低浓度与无处不在的空气污染问题,与其他稳定同位素比值相比,氮同位素的数据要少得多。玄武岩中 N2的溶解度是非常有限的,尽管氮中许多以易溶的 形式存在。因此,火山岩,只有水下玄武岩提供地幔氮的有用样品。测定玄武岩中的氮同位素既存在污染问题又有分析问题。这样,与低的丰度 (通常小于 1 × 10-6 )交织在一起,要作出精确的分析很困难。MORB中的δ15 NATM的范围是-2‰～+12‰,洋岛玄武岩 (夏威夷 OIB)几个氮同位素分析值高达+20%。目前确定这种变化多大程度上反映了污染 (特别是有机质的污染)、脱气过程中的分馏或真实的地幔不均一性仍是很困难的。也许,所有能说明的是玄武岩中的氮看起来平均具正的δ15 N值。图7-37 地壳与地幔物质中的氮同位素组成有关物质中氮的含量与主要存在形式如表7-10 所示。地球火成岩与变质岩,氮主要以 形式替代K+,因此,在黑云母中含 量可大于0.025%。沉积岩中的氮含量一般与有机碳含量成正相关,现代沉积物的C/N比为 5～50 (平均为20),表明沉积岩中的氮为有机来源。此外,黏土矿物可吸附 ,所以碎屑沉积岩中氮含量还与黏土矿物含量成正比。大洋水体随着温度下降、盐度升高,氮的溶解度增高。大洋中 、 、 浓度由生物活动所控制,因此,随地域、季节、水深而变化, 含量随水深增高。河水、湖水中的氮在厌氧条件下, 含量降低,而以 为主;地表水中的 的平均含量比地下水中的高,且变化大。饮用水标准中 含量小于10mg/L,但由于施用含氮肥料、地热区泉涌及其他天然与人为原因,许多地方的饮用水中 含量超过限定值。大气中的NO2、N2O主要源于工业污染,雨水中的 含量与年降雨量成反比 (郑永飞等,2000)。表7-10 有关物质中氮的含量与主要存在形式(一)氮同位素分馏大多数氮化合物中的氮同位素平衡分馏系数是通过理论计算得到的。计算结果表明,从NO→NH3→N2→N2 O→NO2 ,15 N依次富集。N2 (液)-N2 (气)的平衡分馏系数为1.00085,说明水溶液中的氮略为富集15 N。氮同位素的物理化学与生物化学等动力学过程可造成明显的同位素分馏。如氮气在多孔介质中运移造成15 N随扩散运移距离的增加而减少;地球上的氮同位素组成比火星大气亏损15N就是由于火星的重力较小,轻同位素更易扩散丢失; 与离子交换树脂进行交换时,交换到树脂上的 富集15N,分馏5‰～25‰(郑淑蕙等,1986)。生物固氮作用形成的植物有机物中,15 N的含量比大气氮稍低。在生物的分解代谢作用中,有机物中氮转化为 ,这一过程使 的δ15N比有机物低5‰～7‰。 经细菌氧化为 时(硝化作用),所产生的 比 的δ15N要低5‰～21‰,决定分馏的是 → 。在氧含量很低时,细菌能将 还原为N2分子,实验得到的氮同位素分馏值为-20‰,在热带太平洋测得的值为-40‰,这些说明反 (去)硝化作用过程中氮同位素的分馏与 的浓度、氧分压、温度及还原细菌的数量等因素有关。(二)陨石、月岩氮同位素地球化学月岩的δ15 N为-190‰～+125‰。一般用分步加热方法研究,借此可以辨认出不同的组分。如图7-38 为Apollo-17 带回的月岩70011 的析出谱,其氮含量约为70×10-6。最低温 (600℃)组分为吸附的地球氮,800℃和 1000℃下析出的组分被解释为近期太阳风和古老太阳风植入组分,最高温 (1325℃)析出的组分为散裂反应产物组分。海盗号(Viking)登火星飞行的实测火星大气氮的结果为15N/14N=0.00640±0.001,相当于δ15N=770‰±300‰。其原因可能是因为火星引力小,有利于较轻的14 N的选择性逃逸。陨石中δ15 N变化范围极大,已知最低值为-326‰,发现于 Allende陨石的酸溶残渣中,最高值为 973‰,见于石铁陨石中。各化学群陨石的δ15 N 各不相同:Cl 和 C2 群为30‰～50‰;E 群为-40‰～-30‰;C3 群为-326‰～-66‰;普通球粒陨石为-10‰～20‰;铁陨石为-90‰～150‰。这些变异反映它们的原始特征,即受原始太阳星云不均一性、核过程、凝聚和吸积 (如E群凝聚早、C 群凝聚晚以及在凝聚过程中14 N选择性丢失等)过程的影响。次生过程,如散裂产物植入、太阳风植入、变质丢失等影响不大 (郑永飞等,2000)。图7-38 月岩 70011 号阶段释氮同位素组成(三)上地幔氮同位素地球化学上地幔来源的金刚石可含高达 2000×10-6的氮,因此是地幔氮的绝好样品。高δ13 C金刚石 (最常见,通常是橄榄岩组合)δ15 N 从-12‰～+5‰,平均为-3‰,明显不同于玄武岩中观察到的正值。低δ13 C金刚石一般具正的δ15 N 值。由于地壳岩石中有机质与铵一般具正的δ15 N,该特征与这组金刚石来自消减的地壳物质的假设是一致的。然而,由于玄武岩似乎一般具正的δ15 N,其他解释也有可能。纤维状金刚石,可能与将其携带到地表的金伯利岩有直接关系 (Boyd et al.,1994),具更均一的δ15 N,均值大约为-5‰。由于可能在氮进入金刚石的过程中有明显的同位素分馏,这类金刚石数据的意义也不明确,地幔金刚石的氮同位素问题仍没解决。(四)沉积岩氮同位素地球化学在缺氧环境,有些微生物利用溶解硝酸盐中的氧。细菌脱氮作用中优先消耗富集14 N的硝酸盐分子,残余硝酸盐因而富集15 N。大洋水/沉积物界面附近的脱氮过程还伴随硝化过程,使沉积物中铵氧化为硝酸盐。美国西北部沿太平洋的一个海湾 (Puget Sound)的浅海沉积物,向下扩散的硝酸盐中没有观察到氮同位素分馏。但从沉积物向外扩散的氨气的δ15 N比有机物和上覆水柱的硝酸盐高约 4.5‰,其原因是氨在缺氧条件下硝化时发生了氮同位素分馏。许多到达沉积物水界面的有机氮会在成岩过程中丢失。然而沉积物的氮同位素成分是根据初始有机物来确定的。例如,白垩纪海洋沉积物较低的δ15 N,是由于异常的海洋生物化学作用减慢了大洋循环。随着有机物成岩作用的进行,氮能够以 形式替代K+而进入黏土矿物的晶格。这种进入黏土矿物和云母的氮来自有机物分解,其氮同位素组成与有机氮一样。远洋沉积物总氮的δ15 N为3‰～10‰,与沉积物中有机质的值一致 (郑永飞等,2000)。(五)变质岩氮同位素地球化学沉积物变质时,由于脱挥发分作用将发生 的丢失,此时伴有显著的氮同位素分馏,残余物中富集15 N。因此,高级变质岩和花岗岩相对富集15 N,其δ15 N为+8‰～+10‰。美国加利福尼亚州Catalina岛高级变质岩是一典型的发育于俯冲带上的变质带。氮同位素研究表明,岩石中氮与K2O含量成正比,氮以 形式存在于白色云母(铬云母、铬白云母)中。随着变质程度增加,氮含量下降,δ15 N增加,如:硬柱石-钠长石变质岩及其中的云母 δ15N=1.9‰±0.6‰硬柱石-蓝片岩及其中的云母 δ15N=2.4‰±0.3‰绿帘石-蓝片岩、绿帘石-斜长角闪岩及其中的云母 δ15N=4.0‰±0.7‰斜长角闪岩及其中的云母 δ15N=4.3‰±0.8‰在混合岩范围内,氮同位素组成均一,这表明变质流体在千米尺度上是均一的,有大规模的混合作用存在。在混合岩脉体、伟晶岩、角闪岩相沉积变质岩中,白云母的δ15 N一致,表明混合岩化过程中氮同位素分馏很小 (郑永飞等,2000)。(六)水圈氮同位素地球化学1.淡水雨水把土壤中的可溶氮化合物带到地下水面附近。地下水中氮的来源,除雨水从表层土壤带来外,还有肥料、污水、动植物排泄物、地下水蓄水层中的溶解物质等。主要以 的形式存在,在还原条件下有少量 。地下水的δ15N为0～+25‰,取决于当地的氮源。这种变异可用在水文研究中。2.海水大洋深层水中溶解硝酸盐的δ15 N为+6‰～+8‰。脱氮反应是保持大洋水δ15 N 高于大气的主要机理。海洋颗粒有机物 (Particulate Organic Matter,POM)的δ15 N 值为+3‰～+13‰,而陆地来源颗粒有机物则为-6.6‰～+5.2‰ (平均为+2.5‰),相对贫15 N。据此可以研究近海区域水体的混合。如 1974年4月所测荷兰须德海某河口湾的 POM 的δ15 N (图7-39)表明,内陆80km处δ15 N为 1.5‰±0.2‰,向北海变为8.0±1.8‰,有增加趋势。但由于有机物的季节性生长,无论陆地和海洋POM都有明显的季节变化。春天和初夏,生物繁盛时,δ15 N 低,而夏秋则δ15 N 高,在北海达+11.5‰。POM中δ15 N 随时间而变化,因此在应用海洋和陆源氮同位素示踪时必须谨慎。图7-39 荷兰须德海颗粒有机物的氮同位素变异图图7-40 印度洋北部颗粒有机氮含量与同位素组成随深度的变化海洋POM由浮游生物在大洋表层营养层中产生,下沉时在无光层中分解。因为POM分解时氮比碳容易丢失,其 C/N 比随深度而增加。颗粒有机氮的δ15 N 随深度的变化见图7-40。POM的含量从表层水向下数十米内增加,这是因为由于浮游生物活动而大量形成之故。然后由于它的分解其含量向深部不断减少。在约 500m以下保持不变,直到洋底。与此相应,大洋表面到约 75m 深度,随氮浓度增加,δ15 N 下降,最低值达到约+2.9‰,其原因是因为浮游生物优先吸取 ,随后δ15N增加,直到约500m时,达到+13‰,这是因为浮游生物分解时,14N优先丢失。随后δ15N保持不变,直到洋底。缓慢沉入洋底的POM进入沉积物。据此判断洋底沉积物的δ15 N应与悬浮POM的一样,δ15 N应为+8‰～+13‰。但实测值较低,为+6.8‰±4.1‰。北太平洋洋底沉积物的δ15 N低达+2.9‰～+4.4‰。其原因不外乎有其他氮源存在或 POM沉积后δ15 N 发生变化。有一种解释认为大洋水体中还有一种快速沉降颗粒,因沉降快所以未受到氧化分解影响因而富14 N。这种颗粒不易在过滤水样时被采集到。
