第七舰队大约拥有50至60艘军舰、350架战机，舰队满员编制6万人，其中包括38,000名海军官兵和22,000名海军陆战队员，平时总兵力约2万人。一般由CVN-73“乔治·华盛顿”号航空母舰组成的航空母舰战斗群为主要作战部队，辅以陆基航空兵、两栖部队。必要时可以从第三舰队或其他部队抽调舰艇补充。现辖旗舰一艘（“蓝岭”号）、核动力航母一艘（“乔治·华盛顿”号），3至4艘配备导弹的巡洋舰、18至20艘导弹驱逐舰及护卫舰、5至6艘攻击型潜艇以及5至8艘登陆舰、18艘后勤保障船和若干汽垫船、辅助船只等。现任司令威拉德海军中将。第七舰队拥有横须贺、佐世保和关岛3个军港，母港为日本的横须贺。在新加坡还有一个补给码头，所有经过马六甲海峡的美军船只都可以在此进行休整补给。第七舰队的舰队编制采用行政编制和特遣指挥编制两种方式。 第七舰队战斗指挥部/第70特遣队（Commander, Battle Force, 7th Fleet / CTF-70）：第七舰队的主力，其组成包含两部分，分别是以“乔治·华盛顿”号为核心的第五航空母舰打击群（CSG 5）与其所搭载的第五舰载机联队（CVW-5），以及由驱逐舰组成的第15驱逐舰中队（CDS-15）。驻地日本横须贺。第一海军特战单位指挥部/第71特遣队（Commander, Navy Special Warfare Unit One / CTF-71）：CTF-71主要是由第一海军特战部队（Commander, Navy Special Warfare, Unit One，NSWU-1）与第5海军爆破物处理机动队（EODMU 5）所组成，驻地关岛。第七舰队巡逻侦察指挥部/第72特遣队（Commander, Patrol & Reconnaissance Force, 7th Fleet / CTF-72）：由数支陆基的反潜与侦察部队所组成，驻地包括日本冲绳的嘉手纳与青森县三泽海军基地，司令部设于神奈川县厚木海军基地。西太平洋后勤群指挥部/第73特遣队（Commander, Logistics Group, Western Pacific / CTF-73）第七舰队潜艇指挥部/第74特遣队（Commander, Submarine Force, 7th Fleet / CTF-74）：驻地日本横须贺。海军远征部队太平洋指挥部/第75特遣队（Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific, 7th Fleet / CTF-75）第七舰队两栖作战指挥部/第76特遣队（Commander, Amphibious Force, 7th Fleet / CTF-76）：驻地日本冲绳美国海军驻韩指挥部/第78特遣队（Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Korea / CTF-78）：又常缩写为CNFK，CTF-78是美国海军在大韩民国的驻扎代表，其总部设于首尔市郊的龙山基地，并以庆尚南道的镇海海军基地作为主要驻地。第七舰队登陆部队指挥部/第79特遣队（Commander, Landing Force, 7th Fleet / CTF-79）：驻地日本冲绳。第七舰队另有数艘“佩里”级护卫舰、数量不明的机动导弹快艇等，驻扎于关岛、中途岛等美军基地，用以平时巡卫用，如遇到盟国或友军船只、军舰会协航甚至保护之。
