Amelia earhart was born in kansas,usa, on July24,1897. In those days, planes were not nearly as common as they are today. She was 12years old before she ever saw a plane, and she did not take her first fight until 1920. She was so excited by her first plane ride that she soon learnt to fly a plane. She wrote,”As soon as I left the ground, I knew I myself had to fly.”
In 1928,she received a phone call. She was invited to become the first woman passenger to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a plane.” The idea of just going as 'extra weight' did not interest me very much ,” she said ,but she accepted the offer.
After flying across the Atlantic as a passenger, Earhart’s next goal was to cross the Atlantic in a plane herself. In 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to make a non-stop flight across the Atlantic alone. Exactly five years later, Earhart became the first woman to do the same flight. It took her more than 20 hours!Today, it usually takes about seven hours.
Earhart decided that her next trip would be to fly around the world . In june 1973,she went to Miami to begin a round-the-world flight . She made it to New Guinea successfully,even though she was tired and ill. During the next part of the trip,she left New Guinea for a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. July2,1937 was the last time she communicated with the ground . No one knows for sure what happened.
