one of the strongest explosives at that time was nitroglycerin.this explosive,which looks like oily water,is very dangerous to use or even to carry.nobel wanted to study nitroglycerin so he could find a way to make it safer,but the swedish *** would not let him make any more explosives in his laboratory.it was too dangerous.nobel had the idea of taking nitroglycerin out on a boat in the middle of a lake and working with it there.
when nobel wanted to take the nitroglycerin he was working with from one place to another,he put it into small boxes.then he put the small boxes into a larger box made of clay.one day,when he opened the large clay box,he found that nitroglycerin was coming out of one of the small boxes.to his surprise,the large clay box was still dry.
this gave him the idea of mixing clay with nitroglycerin.the clay would take the oil out of nitroglycerin and make it safer.he called this new explosive 'dynamite'.
dynamite was very useful.alfred nobel made and sold so much of it that he became a very rich man.in his will he gave a lot of his money to the swedish academy of arts and sciences.he wanted the money to be used to give prizes to people who did excellent work.the academy called them 'nobel prizes'.the winners get a lot of money.

Marie Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist and one Marie Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist and one of the most famous scientists of her time. Together with her husband Pierre, she won the Nobel Prize in 1903, and another one in 1911. Marie Sklodowska was born in Warsaw on 7 November 1867, the daughter of a teacher. In 1891, she went to Paris to study physics and maths at the Sorbonne where she met Pierre Curie, professor of the School of Physics. They married in 1895. The Curies worked together studying radioactivity (放射性), building on the work of the German physicist Roentgen and the French physicist Becquerel. In July 1898, the Curies announced the discovery of polonium (钋). At the end of the year, they announced the discovery of another, radium (镭). The Curies, along with Becquerel, won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. Pierre’s life was cut short in 1906 when he was knocked down and killed by a carriage. Marie took over his teaching post, becoming the first woman to teach at the Sorbonne, and devoted (献身于) herself to continuing the work that they had begun together. She received a second Nobel Prize, for Chemistry, in 1911. The Curies’ research was important in developing X-rays in surgery. During World WarⅠ, Marie helped fixed X-ray equipment, which she herself drove to the front lines. She helped train doctors for the International Red Cross. Although she achieved much success, men scientists in France were still against Marie, and she never received any financial help from her work. By the late 1920s her health was beginning to become worse. She died on 4 July 1934 from her dangerous research. 英语翻译Louis Pasteur,the famous French chemist and bacteriologi 英语翻译 Louis Pasteur,the famous French chemist and bacteriologist,invented “pasteurization”.In 1854 Pasteur was made head of the department of science at the University of Lille,and it was there that he made one of his most famous discoveries.Lille was a major center for wine and beer-making,and some of the local wine-makers asked Pasteur if he could help solve the problem of keeping wine fresh.At that time,it was believed that food and drinks go “bad” due to a purely chemical process (变化过程).But during a series of experiments Pasteur proved that tiny living organisms caused food and drinks to go bad.In the case of wine and beer the organisms are already present in the form of the various yeasts (酵母) that caused the fermentation (发酵) process.Pasteur discovered that heating the wine gently for a few minutes after it had fermented would kill off the yeast that was left in the wine,with the result that the wine would remain fresh for much longer.He also proved that food and drinks could be turned bad by other organisms that were present in the air,and that they too would keep fresh much longer if they were kept in airtight containers. The heating process was so successful that it made Pasteur famous.It was named “pasteurization” in his honour,and by about 1900 it had been widely used for processing and bottling cows’ milk.The result was a huge drop in the number of bottle-fed babies dying from infant diarrhea (婴儿腹泻) and from that time on it has been a standard treatment for milk and many other food products.This simple process has saved thousands,possibly millions,of lives worldwide.
