2道GMAT逻辑,
The ancient Nubians inhabited an area in which typhus occurs, yet surprisingly few of their skeletons show the usual evidence of this disease. The skeletons do show deposits of tetracycline,an antibiotic produced by a bacterium common in Nubian soil. This bacterium can flourish on the dried grain used for making two staples of the Nubian diet, beer and bread. Thus, tetracycline in their food probably explains the low incidence of typhus among ancient Nubians.
Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument relies?
A.Infectious diseases other than typhus to which the ancient Nubians were exposed are unaffected by tetracycline.
B.Tetracycline is not rendered ineffective as an antibiotic by exposure to the processes involved in making bread and beer.
C.Typhus cannot be transmitted by ingesting bread or beer contaminated with the infectious agents of this disease.
D.Bread and beer were the only items in the diet of the ancient Nubians which could have contained tetracycline.
E.Typhus is generally fatal.
Which of the following most logically completes the passage?
Using new detection techniques, researchers have found trace amounts of various medicinal substances in lakes and rivers.Taken in large quantities, these substances could have serious health effects, but they are present in quantities far too low to cause any physiological response in people who drink the water or bathe in it.Nevertheless, medical experts contend that eliminating these trace amounts from the water will have public health benefits, since __________.
A.some of the medicinal substances found in lakes and rivers are harmless to humans even if taken in large quantities
B.some of the medicinal substances found in lakes and rivers can counteract possible harmful effects of other such substances found there
C.people who develop undesirable side effects when being treated with medicines that contain these substances generally have their treatment changed
D.most medicinal substances that reach lakes or rivers rapidly break down into harmless substances
E.disease-causing bacteria exposed to low concentrations of certain medicinal substances can become resistant to them

Industrial accidents are more common when some of the people in safety-sensitive jobs have drinking problems than when none do.Since, even after treatment, people who have had drinking problems are somewhat more likely than other people to have drinking problems in the future, any employer trying to reduce the risk of accidents should bar anyone who has ever been treated for a drinking problem from holding a safety-sensitive job.
Which of the following,if true, most seriously undermines the argument above?
A.Some companies place employees who are being treated for drinking problems in residential programs and allow them several weeks of paid sick leave.
B.Many accidents in the workplace are the result of errors by employees who do not hold safety-sensitive jobs.
C.Workers who would permanently lose their jobs if they sought treatment for a drinking problem try instead to conceal their problem and continue working for as long as possible.
D.People who hold safety-sensitive jobs are subject to stresses that can exacerbate any personal problems they may have, including drinking problems.
E.Some industrial accidents are caused by equipment failure rather than by em

b,d和e是扯淡的选项;
a支持了文章观点;

2.which of the following best completes the passage below?
one tax-reform proposal that has gained increasing support in recent years is the flat tax, which would impose a uniform tax rate on incomes at every level.opponents of the flat tax say that a progressive taxsystem, which levies a higher rate of taxes on higher-income taxpayers,is fairer, placing the greater burden on those better able to bear it.however, the present crazy quilt of tax deductions, exemptions, credits, and loopholes benefits primarily the high-income taxpayer, who is consequently able to reduce his or her effective tax rate, often to a level below that paid by the lower-income taxpayer.therefore,______
(a) higher-income taxpayers are likely to lend their support to the flat-tax proposal now being considered by congress
(b) a flat-tax system that allowed no deductions or exemptions would substantially increase actual *** revenues
(c) the lower-income taxpayer might well be penalized by the institution of a flat-tax system in this country
(d) the progressive nature of our present tax system is more illusory than real
(e) the flat tax would actually be fairer to the lower-income taxpayer than any progressive tax system could be

The number of applications for teaching positions in Newtown’s public schools was 5.7 percent lower in 1993 than in 1985 and 5.9 percent lower in 1994 than in 1985.despite a steadily growing student population and an increasing number of teacher resignations, however,Newtown does not face a shortage in the late 1990’s.
Which of the following,if true, would contribute most to an explanation of the apparent discrepancy above?
【A】Many of Newtown’s public school students do not graduate from high school
【B】New housing developments planned for Newtown are (shared) for occupancy in 1987 and are expected to increase the number of elementary school students in Newtown’s public
【C】The Newtown school board does not contemplate increasing the ratio of students to teachers in the 1990’s.
【D】Teachers’ colleges in and near Newtown produced lower graduates in 1994 than in 1993
【E】In 1993 Newtown’s public schools received 40 percent more applications for teaching positions than there were positions available.
