In addition to enabling simple keyword search of publications throughout the site,eScholarship supports the use of advanced search for more directed queries. To access Advanced Search, click on the link directly beneath the search field in the upper right corner of any page.Clicking this link will launch an advanced search box that enables you to search by keywords, title, author, publisher, and publication year,as well as to narrow your search by peer review status, discipline, and campus affiliation.
Refine Search Results
eScholarship also enables users to narrow search results by peer review status, discipline, and campus affiliation following any global publication search (including a simple keyword search).Selecting any of the facets to the left of the results list restricts your results to those publications that correspond to your chosen criterion/a.Note:the discipline facets expand to 3 levels, enabling a fine level of specificity in choosing academic fields.
You can clear your selections at any time to return to the full set of results.
Keyword in Context Pictures (KWIC Pics) is a display technology that enables users to view glimpses of PDFs from a search results list, allowing them to better determine the relevance of publications early in the search process.By hovering the cursor over matching keywords on the results page, users can view excerpted images of the actual PDF articles containing the selected keywords.
Readers can perform keyword searches within eScholarship publications. After landing at a publication, click the “Search Document” tab in the lower left corner of the screen. This tab will open a search box at the top of the left pane.Enter keywords here, and the results for this publication will be displayed in a list beneath the search box.Clicking on a highlighted keyword anywhere in the list will cause the document in the right pane to display the corresponding text.
Keyword searches within documents are also automatically generated by global searches. If,for example, you search all eScholarship publications for the keyword “metaphor,” any publication you choose from the search results page will display all the results for the word “metaphor” within its text upon arrival.
“My Items” allows users to save a list of chosen documents for the length of one session.(The session expires when the browser window is closed.) This list of collected items can then be emailed to the user and others via the “Email My Items” link at the top of the My Items page.
You can add publications to My Items from both the search results page and the publication display page. From the search results page, simply click on the “Save items” link to the right of the publication you wish to collect. If you later desire to remove this publication from My Items, you can do so by clicking the “Remove Item” link in the same location.
