Being Agile

Being agile?

being able to make something new and unusual是什么意思

advantage of being famous

Fame is very much like an animal chasing its own tail who, when he captures it,does not know what else to do but to continue chasing it.Fame and the delighting popularity that accompanies it,force the famous person to participate in his or her own destruction. Those who gain fame most often gain it as a result of possessing a single talent or skill:singing, dancing, painting,or writing, etc. The successful performer develops a style that is marketed aggressively and gains some popularity. And it is this popularity that usually convinces the performer to continue performing in the same style, since that is what the public seems to want and to enjoy. But in time, the performer becomes bored singing the same songs in the same way year after year,or the painter becomes bored painting similar scenes or portraits,or the actor is tired of playing the same character repeatedly. The demand of the public holds the artist hostage to his or her own success, fame. If the artist attempts to change his or her style of writing or dancing or singing, etc.the audience may turn away and look to confer changeable fame which is passing quickly on another. I believe that fame and celebrity, influence and power, success and failure, reality and illusion are all somehow neatly woven into a seamless fabric we laughingly call reality.I say to those who desperately seek fame and fortune, celebrity:good luck. But what will you do when you have caught your tail, your success, and your fame?Keep chasing it?If you do catch it,hang on for dear life because falling is not as painful as landing.See you soon famous and almost famous.

(Is being famous good or not?)

1 being famous is good because when you are famous, you can have more power to speak up and your words can influence the people through media easier so as to help more peole or even slove some social problems(但是反方也许会用 一些公众人物有不好的言行反击)2 being famous is good since it is a provement that you are outstanding in your specific area and it can help you to behave well(the public will always keep an eye on you so that you may gat more self controll)(反方:为什么一定要别人监督?不出名自己过得岂不是更自由?)3 being famous is good cause you can fullfill your dream due to the social position you are in ...

Level7 Unit3 Part1 : Being a Global Citizen

I want to introduce you to an amazing woman. Her name is Davinia. Davinia was born in Jamaica, emigrated to the US at the age of 18, and now lives just outside of Washington, DC. She"s not a high-powered political staffer, nor a lobbyist. She"d probably tell you she"s quite unremarkable, but she"s having the most remarkable impact. What"s incredible about Davinia is that she"s willing to spend time every single week focused on people who are not her: people not her in her neighborhood, her state, nor even in her country -- people she"d likely never meet. Davinia"s impact started a few years ago when she reached out to all of her friends on Facebook, and asked them to donate their pennies so she could fund girls" education. She wasn"t expecting a huge response, but 700,000 pennies later, she"s now sent over 120 girls to school. When we spoke last week, she told me she"s become a little infamous at the local bank every time she rocks up with a shopping cart full of pennies. Now -- Davinia is not alone. Far from it. She"s part of a growing movement. And there"s a name for people like Davinia: global citizens. A global citizen is someone who self-identifies first and foremost not as a member of a state, a tribe or a nation, but as a member of the human race, and someone who is prepared to act on that belief, to tackle our world"s greatest challenges. Our work is focused on finding, supporting and activating global citizens. They exist in every country and among every demographic. I want to make the case to you today that the world"s future depends on global citizens. I"m convinced that if we had more global citizens active in our world, then every single one of the major challenges we face -- from poverty, climate change, gender inequality -- these issues become solvable. They are ultimately global issues, and they can ultimately only be solved by global citizens demanding global solutions from their leaders. Now, some people"s immediate reaction to this idea is that either it"s a bit utopian or even threatening. So I"d like to share with you a little of my story today, how I ended up here, how it connects with Davinia and, hopefully, with you. Growing up in Melbourne, Australia, I was one of those seriously irritating little kids that never, ever stopped asking, "Why?" You might have been one yourself. I used to ask my mum the most annoying questions. I"d ask her questions like, "Mum, why I can"t I dress up and play with puppets all day?" "Why do you want fries with that?" "What is a shrimp, and why do we have to keep throwing them on the barbie?" (Laughter) "And mum -- this haircut. Why?" (Laughter) The worst haircut, I think. Still terrible. As a "why" kid, I thought I could change the world, and it was impossible to convince me otherwise. And when I was 12 and in my first year of high school, I started raising money for communities in the developing world. We were a really enthusiastic group of kids, and we raised more money than any other school in Australia. And so I was awarded the chance to go to the Philippines to learn more. It was 1998. We were taken into a slum in the outskirts of Manila. It was there I became friends with Sonny Boy, who lived on what was literally a pile of steaming garbage. "Smoky Mountain" was what they called it. But don"t let the romance of that name fool you, because it was nothing more than a rancid landfill that kids like Sonny Boy spent hours rummaging through every single day to find something, anything of value. That night with Sonny Boy and his family changed my life forever, because when it came time to go to sleep, we simply laid down on this concrete slab the size of half my bedroom with myself, Sonny Boy, and the rest of his family, seven of us in this long line, with the smell of rubbish all around us and cockroaches crawling all around. And I didn"t sleep a wink, but I lay awake thinking to myself, "Why should anyone have to live like this  when  I have so  much ? Why should Sonny Boy"s ability to live out his dreams be  determined  by where he"s born, or  what  Warren Buffett called "the ovarian lottery?"" I just didn"t get it, and I needed to understand why. Now, I only later came to understand that the poverty I"d seen in the Philippines was the result of decisions made or not made, man-made, by a succession of colonial powers and corrupt governments who had anything but the interests of Sonny Boy at heart. Sure, they didn"t create Smoky Mountain, but they may as well have. And if we"re to try to help kids like Sonny Boy, it wouldn"t work just to try to send him a few dollars or to try to clean up the garbage dump on which he lived, because the core of the problem lay elsewhere. And as I worked on community development projects over the coming years trying to help build schools, train teachers, and tackle HIV and AIDS, I came to see that community development should be driven by communities themselves, and that although charity is necessary, it"s not sufficient. We need to confront these challenges on a global scale and in a systemic way. And the best thing I could do is try to mobilize a large group of citizens back home to insist that our leaders engage in that systemic change. That"s why, a few years later, I joined with a group of college friends in bringing the Make Poverty History campaign to Australia. We had this dream of staging this small concert around the time of the G20 with local Aussie artists, and it suddenly exploded one day when we got a phone call from Bono, the Edge and Pearl Jam, who all agreed to headline our concert. I got a little bit excited that day, as you can see. (Laughter) But to our amazement, the Australian government heard our collective voices, and they agreed to double investment into global health and development -- an additional 6.2 billion dollars. It felt like -- (Applause) It felt like this incredible validation. By rallying citizens together, we helped persuade our government to do the unthinkable, and act to fix a problem miles outside of our borders. But here"s the thing: it didn"t last. See, there was a change in government, and six years later, all that new money disappeared. What did we learn? We learned that one-off spikes are not enough. We needed a  sustainable  movement, not  one that is  susceptible  to the  fluctuating  moods of a politician or the hint of an economic  downturn . And it needed to happen everywhere; otherwise, every individual government would have this built-in excuse mechanism that they couldn"t possibly carry the burden of global action alone. And so this is what we embarked upon. And as we embarked upon this challenge, we asked ourselves, how do we gain enough pressure and build a broad enough army to win these fights for the long term? We could only think of one way. We needed to somehow turn that short-term excitement of people involved with the Make Poverty History campaign into long-term passion. It had to be part of their identity. So in 2012, we cofounded an organization that had exactly that as its goal. And there was only one name for it: Global Citizen. But this is not about any one organization. This is about citizens taking action. And research data tells us that of the total population who even care about global issues, only 18 percent have done anything about it. It"s not that people don"t want to act. It"s often that they don"t know how to take action, or that they believe that their actions will have no effect. So we had to somehow recruit and activate millions of citizens in dozens of countries to put pressure on their leaders to behave altruistically. And as we did so, we discovered something really thrilling, that when you make global citizenship your mission, you suddenly find yourself with some extraordinary allies. See, extreme poverty isn"t the only issue that"s fundamentally global. So, too, is climate change, human rights, gender equality, even conflict. We found ourselves shoulder to shoulder with people who are passionate about targeting all these interrelated issues. But how did we actually go about recruiting and engaging those global citizens? Well, we used the universal language: music. We launched the Global Citizen Festival in the heart of New York City in Central Park, and we persuaded some of the world"s biggest artists to participate. We made sure that these festivals coincided with the UN General Assembly meeting, so that leaders who need to hear our voices couldn"t possible ignore them. But there was a twist: you couldn"t buy a ticket. You had to earn it. You had to take action on behalf of a global cause, and only once you"d done that could you earn enough points to qualify. Activism is the currency. I had no interest in citizenship purely as some sort of feel-good thing. For me, citizenship means you have to act, and that"s what we required. And amazingly, it worked. Last year, more than 155,000 citizens in the New York area alone earned enough points to qualify. Globally, we"ve now signed up citizens in over 150 countries around the world. And last year, we signed up more than 100,000 new members each and every week of the whole year. See, we don"t need to create global citizens from nothing. We"re already everywhere. We just need to be organized and motivated to start acting. And this is where I believe we can learn a lot from Davinia, who started taking action as a global citizen back in 2012. Here"s what she did. It wasn"t rocket science. She started writing letters, emailing politicians" offices. She volunteered her time in her local community. That"s when she got active on social media and started to collect pennies -- a lot of pennies. Now, maybe that doesn"t sound like a lot to you. How will that achieve anything? Well, it achieved a lot because she wasn"t alone. Her actions, alongside 142,000 other global citizens", led the US government to double their investment into Global Partnership for Education. And here"s Dr. Raj Shah, the head of USAID, making that announcement. See, when thousands of global citizens find inspiration from each other, it"s amazing to see their collective power. Global citizens like Davinia helped persuade the World Bank to boost their investment into water and sanitation . Here"s the Bank"s president Jim Kim announcing 15 billion dollars onstage at Global Citizen, and Prime Minister Modi of India affirmed his commitment to put a toilet in every household and school across India by 2019. Global citizens encouraged by the late-night host Stephen Colbert launched a Twitter invasion on Norway. Erna Solberg, the country"s Prime Minister, got the message, committing to double investment into girls" education. Global citizens together with Rotarians called on the Canadian, UK, and Australian governments to boost their investment into polio eradication. They got together and committed 665 million dollars. But  despite all of this momentum, we face some huge challenges. See, you might be thinking to yourself, how can we possibly persuade world leaders to sustain a focus on global issues? Indeed, the powerful American politician Tip O"Neill once said, "All politics is local." That"s what always got politicians elected: to seek, gain and hold onto power through the pursuit of local or at very best national interests. I experienced this for the first time when I was 21 years old. I took a meeting with a then-Australian Foreign Minister who shall remain nameless -- [Alexander Downer] (Laughter) And behind closed doors, I shared with him my passion to end extreme poverty. I said, "Minister -- Australia has this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals. We can do this." And he paused, looked down on me with cold, dismissive eyes, and he said, "Hugh, no one gives a funk about foreign aid." Except he didn"t use the word "funk." He went on. He said we need to look after our own backyard first. This is, I believe, outdated, even dangerous thinking. Or as my late grandfather would say, complete BS. Parochialism offers this false dichotomy because it pits the poor in one country against

No one can avoid being influenced by advertisements

False advertising content is bound to mislead, deceive consumers, the corresponding harm on our society. It is manifested in two aspects: Firstly, it destroys the fundamental basis of truth in advertising to make consumers suspicious of advertising, affecting the positive role of advertising. According to the survey, China"s consumers, 85% of people think that most commodities are not as good as advertised, 66% said that ads need to be resolved at this stage is a false nature; second, due to destruction of truth in advertising , so that the interests of consumers of property and personal interests have been violated. Government management, increased investment on the market, this is bound to raise the transaction costs to society caused great waste, a serious obstacle to economic development.

How to avoid being misled by advertisements?(急啊。。。。)

Advertisements fill in every gap in our life in nowadays. On television screens, newspapers, on the street even on the back of the toilet door you are staring at with frustration caused by something else. With this none-stop visual invasion happening around us, how can we keep our eyes straight and mind clear? The real purpose of ads is obvious, they want you to remember what they are trying to sell you, they want you to believe how worthit to exchange they products with your money, they want you to be happy for getting something you"ll never need.So how can we avoid being fooled by those ads? Simple. You only need to ask one question: How do I know?"This carpet spray smells extraordinary...." How do I know? "Our newest product brings up hope for ......" How do I know?"This is the last 5 pieces that you can find in anywhere...." How do I know?Ask the question, why on earth do I have to believe what you tell me on the ads with huge letters and bright flashing colours? I make decisions on what I"m getting and what I"m not. Don"t you ever try to stick your hand in my pocket just with showing some fancy pictures and moving lies.

being exposed to too much sunlight

下 for too much time 介词短语,指太长时间. Exposed to sunlight for too much time, your skin will get sunburnt.

being advertised

being grown

答案为having grown或者grown we were delighted to find the trees( planted a year before )_having grown___very tall 这个不可能用被动being grown ,同样,看见小树正在长高可能么?

Others feel that human activitymakesthe Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion?Usespecific reasons and examples to supportyouranswer.[范文]-共三篇第一篇: People have been living on the Earth for thousands of years.Humanactivity influences the Earth. Some people believe that theEarth isbeing harmed by human activity. Others feel that humanactivitymakes the Earth a better place to live. In my opinion, theearth isbeing damaged by human activity. There are manystatementssupporting my opinion. Human activity has damaged natural environment and almostexaustednatural resources. Modern industry needs more and moreresources, including minerals, fuels and water. So we confront ofthe seriousproblems such as the lack of fuels and water.Ecological balance isdamaged because factories occupy many placeswhere animals andplants live. More and more buildings areconstructed and forestsbecome less and less. If we cannotrecognize these problems andsolve them soon, we would finally losethe environment suitable forour living. An other serious problem is the green-house effect.Humanactivity decreases forests and increases the usage of fuels sothatthe gas of carbon dioxide is output more and more and there arenotenough plants to absorb it. The green-house effect is moreobviousand more sensible these years. Due to the effect, icebergsin thesouth polar and north polar melt and the sea level becomeshigherthan before. I am worried about the cities nearby the sea andhopescientists find an effective method to eliminate thegreen-houseeffect. Although we have advanced machines and our life seemsmorecomfortable than before, we have less chances to approachnaturesand less spaces to act. The cities become bigger and if wewant tohave a picnic with our friends, we have to drive a longdistance tofind a natural place. In fact, the spaces of humanactivity arebeing damaged by the skyscrapers and factories. From the above statements, we can conclude that humanactivitybrings the Earth many damages. Fortunately people haverecognizedthe point and I believe that the Earth will become abetter placeto live with our ceaseless efforts.

高一英语求解 17题为什么不能选A?,为什么是to imitate ?being adopted

17. #1be+adj.(形容词)+to + 动词原形-->所以是is hard to imitateIt"s hard "to" solve this problem. = This is a hard problem ("to" solve). = This problem is hard ("to" solve). He"s a hard guy "to" figure out. = He"s a guy who"s hard "to" figure out. = It"s hard "to" figure that guy out. 特例---be busy (in)+v-ing#2 being+PP. & PP. Being attacked" regularly by storms, people on the island have effective methods to protect themselves.2) 动词和非谓语同时发生Smiling at us, he moves into the room.[动词moves into和非谓语smiling同时发生]#3PP.的时间只有一个:表示过去或者sth. doneFinished on time, the homework will/would be handed in tomorrow.[作业按时做完后, ......]#4 17题选adopted表示adopt的动作已完成(done)#5is considered to 前面用的是is, 现在的时间。如果要用C, 必须用 was considered to have invented比如:The bank is reported to be robbed by a group of locals. The baks was reported to have been robbed by a group of locals.

he is being interviewed now为什么有being

are being interviewed

After being interviewed by the manger ,the applicant was considered to be the right......

The dress was bought for me. was是BE动词的过去式,bought是buy的过去式。 Interviewed by the manager ,the applicant was considered to be the right ……

was being interviewed是被动还是主动?

被动 be interviewed,was being是过去进行时

People tend to amass possessions, sometimes without being aware of doing so.

The narrow strips of beach on which the turtles lay their eggs are being squeezed on one side by

I was being careful and poured a small quantity in his mouth. "i was being+adj."

Heated ,the metal expands. Being heated, the metal expands.

Experts argue that billions of pounds of skills and experiences are being lost to the economy.

billions of pounds / of skills and experiences这里是价值数十亿英镑的技术和经验lost to the economy 是指损失到经济中去了 这应该是原意

it is knowledge that has quipped us human beings with the limitless power with which we dominate

it is ...that 是强调句的句式,重点突出knowledge知识with which 是修饰limitless power第二个that从句修饰all beings

所以being promote

whether being permitted

If weather permits,we"ll have the match tomorrow.

You can not go out without being permitted`.

being fired为什么不是will be fired

dyeing和being(dye,be)为什么变现在分词不去e?

I feel I"m being forgotten 这是一个什么句?

1. “being” 格式的来源有三种: 1.1 “being”是“to be”动词的现在分词形式(就像“cooking”是动词“to cook”的现在分词一样),接在“to be”动词(arm,is,are, was, were)之后,表示进行时态(progressive tenses或continuous tenses),或者表示动作或行为持续的状态或日常习惯。 2. “being”用法 。 2.1“being”是“to be”动词的现在分词形式(就像“cooking”是动词“to cook”的现在分词一样),接在“to be”动词(arm,is,are, was, were)之后,表示进行时态(progressive tenses或continuous tenses),或者表示动作或行为持续的状态或日常习惯。例如—— (1) He is being nice. (这是他的习惯) (2) She was being bad. (这是她的习惯) (3) You are being good. (持续的状态) (4) They were being mean. (这是他们的习惯) (5) I am being patient. (5) Why are you being so silly? (6) You are being cruel when you hurt others with your words or actions. (7)  The dog is being naughty. (8) More gold is being mined from the thoughts of men than is being taken from the earth。 (9) John is being very cheeky today. (10) Paul is being rude this morning. (11)  I am being honest with you. (12)  You are being modest. 例如—— (1)  I was upset when I heard that I had failed the test. 这里谈论的是说话人的感情,因此,不能使用进行时态“I was being upset when I …”。 (2)  I am delighted to hear that you have won the first prize. 同样,不能写成“ I am being delighted …”。 例如—— (1)  Mother is cooking dinner. Dinner is being cooked by mother. (被动) (2)  They are repairing the roof. The roof is being repaired. (3)  I am quite sure that somebody is following me. I am quite sure that I am being followed. 例如—— (1)  I"m not an animal. I"m a human being. (2)  A strange being appeared at the door of the space ship. 例如—— (1)  Do you like being a student? (“like” 是动词, “being” 是“to be”动词构成的动名词,“being a student”是宾语。也可以用“to be”动词的不定式替换,比如,“Do you like to be a student?”) (2)  Being a teacher is fun. (“is”是动词, “being”是“to be”动词构成的动名词,“Being a teacher”作主语,同样,可以换成“to be”动词的不定式,例如,“To be a teacher is fun”) (3)  I enjoy being nice to people. (“enjoy” 是动词, “being”是“to be”动词的动名词,“being nice”作宾语,其中,“nice”又修饰“being”,表示一种状态,不宜用不定式替换。) (4)  Do you like being so ignorant? (这里“so ignorant”应当是当名词用,即“so ignorant a man.” 也可以换成“Do you like to be so ignorant (a man)?” (5)  The accident was caused by his being so clumsy. (“so clumsy”当名词用,即“so clumsy operation”,等。可换成“The accident was caused by his to be so clumsy (operation)”) (6)  I live in terror of not being misunderstood. (等价于“I live in terror of not to be misunderstood.”) (7)  Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty. (等价于“Loneliness and the feeling of to be unwanted…”) (8)  In a teleconference Tuesday, Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo said: "I think guys would enjoy to be able to go in every city every year and play against every team. (这一句,“I think guys would enjoy to be able to go in every city every year and play against every team”,“enjoy”是动词,“to be able to go”表示宾语,可换成“I think guys would enjoy being able to go……”) (9)  Whether I"m in senior leadership meetings or working with someone on the front-line, people enjoy to be around me because I bring my authentic self. (“people enjoy to be around me because…”可换成“people enjoy being around me because…”) (10)  What the team has achieved is something to enjoy, to be leaders of this league ahead of such great teams, it"s something very special," Martínez told Reuters on Monday, the day after his club"s 3-0 win at Villarreal. (句子中,“to be leaders of this league ahead of such great teams”也可以写成,“being leaders of …”) (11)  His being tall was the main reason they hired him. (句子中,“His being tall…”也可以写成,“His to be tall …”) (12)  Do You Know What it"s Like to Be a Student in 2020-21? (= Because he is late, he couldn"t watch the show.) 也可以改成“To be late,…”,等。 (2)  Being a friend of the Minister, I am often invited to official parties. (= As I am a friend of the Minister, I am often invited to official parties.) 也可改为“To be a friend of the Minister,…”,等。 (3)  Being quite slim, I managed to squeeze through the small opening in the wall. (= Since I was quite slim, I managed to squeeze through the small opening in the wall.) 也可改为“To be quite slim,…”,等。 (4)  Being such a lazy oaf, Tony often drives to the nearby shops. (= Because Tony is such a lazy oaf,he often drives to the nearby shops.)

accused of being

being a clever man指的是he,即主语是he.顺序可颠倒一下:as being a clever man, he strikes me.
